what is a parabolic taper

can somebody please provide a drawing of a parabolic curve on a 29" cue shaft? Would it simply be orienting a large 400+ foot diameter circles edge on the edge of the shaft?

See the link in post 54. That parabola plotter allows you to set parameters and see the curve. The values posted in #54 draw a very gentle curve like one might find on a cue shaft. Also, a parabola is not a circle arc so the answer to your question is no.

Note that I am not suggesting there are shafts like this, or that one should make them that way, just commenting on the curve (conic section really) known as a "parabola".

Parabolic taper

Thanks everyone,

I have a cue that has a parabolic taper but wasn't sure if that what the taper was on it ..

I guess I am going to have to go to taper school.

Dpk

I saw a DPK recently. It definitely had the funky taper.

Yes
The shafts taper stands out like a sore thumb..
But up until now I didn't know for a fact exactly what taper it was called.

I still don't think I know much about what different tapers are called and how it really effects the way a cue will play.

I like stiffer hitting cues, but the shaft doesn't have to be a log to achieve that, least I don't think they do .
