What is AZ Billiards?

Great Answers

You all have great answers, and no fighting, got to love it. It can be done. I think AZBilliards is a melting pot of personalities that can build the pool world instead of breaking it down.

Everyone builds different perceptions of things because of the events in their life, this is a place to let our perceptions run wild.

Thanks again.

"Banned. I reported your last post Jim when you referred to AZ members as "tards".

You were treated just as you treated others - with disrespect and eventual contempt. AZ was just a tool to sell your stuff. It means nothing else to you and neither do pool players."

And I had to ask myself, what is AZbilliards? What is it suppose to mean to us? I would like to think it is a place where we can inform and teach each other.

I agree, it can be and should be a place where we inform and teach each other. But the banned guy (Jim Lee, J & D Custom) wasn't doing any of that. He has pretty much 2000 posts where he talks about cues he's selling, or comments on other cues. Maybe that's all he's really interested in... he's 5% pool player and 95% wood worker.

But you can't expect a good result when you don't deliver over a half dozen cues you promised, and then when people express their frustration... fire back calling them tards and short bus riders. He got frustrated too, I understand, but honestly... if all he ever did for AZB was try to sell cues to them, and now he's not even able to do that, what does he need to be on the site for?

AZ to me is a place to kill a lot of time when I should be working :)

I find it has many facets!

Historical posts. I LOVE to read the stories about the old days, the old players and things they did. How well they played, how much they won, all the unknown players, etc. This is one of my favorite parts of AZ.

Educational posts. There are some of these out there. Posts on how to handle certain shots, methods for doing this or that, etc. Yep, I have learned some stuff on here! Especially down in the ask the cuemaker section, if you are a repairman or do some cue tinkering.

Entertaining name calling and trolling posts. Yep, there are a lot of these that are fun to read...admit it!! You have grown men and women on here acting like kids a lot of times, but I suspect often they are doing it for the same reason I am reading it....entertainment.

News. I also like to come here for the news. I like to keep up with how well such and such is playing, who won this tourney, etc. This seems to be a good location for that.

Classifieds. I've done many transactions with some good guys here on AZ, and I have received some real bargains in the process. I think it's great to have a venue such as this to come do a few times a day and see who's got what and for how much!

Drooling. One of my favorite things on here, I love to go to the cue and case gallery and look at all the pretty pictures. I can spend hours doing this.

Social. I have met several people on here that I call my 'friends' even though I have never stood in front of them and shook their hand. Another great aspect of AZ.

That about covers what I think it is.... to me anyway :)

I think it is far from that. It seems "we" on AZbilliards think we are the kings, police, and policy makers of the pool world. "we" pass judgement on everyone. Want to have people banned because they have different opinions. "we" think we are smarter than non members. "we" believe we are the deity of pool.

This is a forum that truly act like a daycare, or grade school and "we" are the bullies. You wonder why pool is having such problems? Look in the mirror, it is us. Isn't it time we all grow up and be thankful that the wonderful game of billiards exists, and we have a place to contribute and learn?

Anyone that had that opinion of "us" and stayed would be a true idiot.

I can understand what you are saying, but, wouldn't this be a boring place if everyone was and acted the same?

We are just one big melting pot of tards.

Our league captain picked our team name for the summer leagues:

TaTards.

I don't even know what it means.

Good for you. You are right on. But it's not everyone. The 'we' is segmented. I joined in June & stopped posting in July for just the reasons you outlined. TOO many 'posting' as if they are the one & only 'Pool God' & 'speaking' in absolutes as if there is only one way to play the game, THEIR way. Now let's see where this goes.

I like to think of AZ forums as a collection of railbirds hanging out at a world wide pool room.AZBF is great when i cannot make it down to the pool room.

I know you can buy and sell here but I never payed much attention to that part of it.

Anyone is able to create thier own pool forums, there is software available on the web and you can prob put a link up on poolkillers website.

It's a living, growing, changing subculture of the world of pool. It just is what it is. Tune in daily, as these are the days of our lives.

Come 1, Come ALL, to The Greatest show in Billiards...

AZB is the most informative, and entertaining billiard site on the net..

There's so many walks of life within this forum, so many different opinions, different beliefs ,and statuses . Though no matter how different one person is from the next, we all share the common love for Billiards..

At times we disagree, I for one haven't always been a model member, but despite my opinions, and statement made towards some , I still respect the views, accomplishment, trials, and hardships of those who make up this community..

I'm happy to be a member here,, there's so much knowledge shared within this forum, a ton of entertainment to take in,and/or take part of..

Some times I come here just to get a laugh @ the events that unfold in some threads.. Then sometimes I come just to view comments made by the likes of "Blue Hog ridr" & "Tramp Steamer". Those 2 alone are very entertaining individuals,, and alot of the time, they bring some needed valid, and/or comedic post to serious topics...

AZB , a place to laugh, a place to learn ,a place to get action, a place to get money or lose money, a place to gain notoriety , and a place to fade away....

I've been a member for over a year. Az is informative & educational. Also a great place to review products. And thank you to the Instructors that chime in. I stay away from debating or confrontation if possible. I like hanging out here. Otherwise I have to sit and chat with my wife or watch television with her. :speechless:

AZ is exactly what it should be.

Take the crowd from any pool room. Take all the different people and personalities and try to turn that into a place on the internet in your mind.

What do you get? AZbilliards forums.

Not always a pretty crowd of people, but it is what it is.

This is the way I see it too, just like an internet poolroom with all kinds of characters who hang out here. Some we like, some we don't like and many we sometimes like and sometimes don't like. Sometimes we learn something interesting and sometimes we hear something stupid. Just like in a poolroom we get to see the good, the bad and the ugly in life.
Everyone can find their niche here and if they can't they can make their own. I'm still looking for mine. :grin-square:

That's what it is NOW - the question is, is that what AZB is destined to be forever?
Should this forum be used as a driver to shape the future of pool? It's a tremendous resource for pool players the world over - is its full potential being utilised?

As a social timewaster, it's top class. As a tool for the promotion of the game, I'm not so sure.

Either way, this is the best thread I'm seen on this site, and has had a disappointing response. Two people squabbling over missing shafts gets a squillion posts, yet this one gets two and half pages. WTF?

righty right. i know other forums where there is 1 big subforum only destinated to public relation work. (its not an english forum)

major topics are marketing of small tournaments (there were tournaments with 20 players with more marketing than the entire 14.1 tournament), flyers, small newspaper articles, exibitions in supermarkets etc. very interesting reads.

on the other hand a FORUM can be a very bad image producer. companies lookings for future sponsorships just google "pool billard" and come to AZ. what do they find? well i would prefer to put my money into cat n mouse wrestling fights considering the posts of some users here...

Defend your way and refute their way. That's how the internet holds power.

It's up to each Person to be his own authority about such things. How else could it ever be?

Should this forum be used as a (snip)

There you go, central planning again.

It'll be what it'll be...by the uncoordinated input of thousands creating it, one personal post at a time....just like life.
