What is "jimbos army" ?

I am still not getting this whole 'us vs them' mentality...seriously folks. You do realize just how not only childish, but limiting as well, this line of thought is, right?!

The way I see it, there are several fine billiard forums online, all are run in a different fashion, as those powers that be deem work for them. All have great valuable content to offer....and all require a certain amount of 'sifting' in which to find those gems.

I have friends, and people I do not care so much for, located in several of these sites. You need to learn to take the good with the bad...you're gonna find that EVERYWHERE. It's just like the radio or tv....you can always turn it off, or change the channel if there is something you do not care for.....it's called being an ADULT, and conducting one's self in an adult-like fashion.

Lisa <=====Turn-offs: Personal attacks for no apparent reason; shameless self-promotion; justification of bad deals; know-it-alls who really don't. :thud:

nah, more like Frodo's.

Frodo's was a "fellowship". Now, if they change their name to "JimBo's Fellowship", or "JimBo's Fellowship of the Internet" (and suddenly start warshipping the Eye of Sauron), I might change my mind. :)

AZ at one point disinigrated into a garbage pit where a a few posters liked nothing more than to ridicule others with their scathing remarks on a daily basis. They did a lot of foul name calling, slander, and tried to create a us vs him/her mentality. The mods had no choice but to step in and ban these people for violating the rules of the forum, and good manners in general.

You had a second group of posters that dwelled in the NPR section and never contributed a legitimate post on Billiards, which is the theme of the forum.
There are other forums for those people. The mods stepped in here too.

The forum is a melting pot of ideas and discussion and knowledge. It is not a
one sum game like some seem to treat it, because we all lose then.

I leave you with Proverbs 20:3

"It is to a man's honor to avoid strife, but every fool is quick to quarrel".

While I get your point, if I want to read some scuttlebutt on another forum I'll go there to read it.

Posting links to their discussions is what they were criticized for doing to our posts on AZB.

JoeyA, the discussion was not the point, the title and the sheer hatred behind someone calling us Nazis is the point.

I do get it............ but advertising that point simply propagates their callous and thoughtless hatred. Their thoughtless reference to us as a unit is a reflection of who they are and nothing more.

This thread does this as well and the originator and others keeps the fire burning bright as we all do by contributing to it. :o

I checked out the links you posted. I was kind of shocked to see that some of the posters are AZBers who sometimes post on this forum agreeing in like-mind and spirit with the NAZI references. It is really kind of sad.

The bottom line is you can't control what people say especially when they say it in their own house.

There is no need for it to be an Us vs. Them thing. In fact, no one over here much cares about "them" until a thread like this surfaces. The fact of the matter is that the site there only exists because of a group of people who were disgruntled with the management here. Some of that group of people make general statements about the quality of posts here and the quality of the people doing the posting. So for those folks it is in fact some kind of us vs. them thing. But it doesn't need to be.

Jimbo, to his credit, is actually trying to do, and has done some cool stuff. His ASK THE CUEMAKER series is truly priceless. I guess that finally being in charge allowed him to reflect on what he could do to make "his" place a "better" place to be and he has done that at least with the Ask the Cuemaker threads.

And Joey is right, you had better not be the kind of person who brags on yourself if you can't back it up.

Jimbo and his Army have a low tolerance for bullshit - at least what they perceive to be bullshit. The thing is that now they have a place of their own that is relatively bullshit free except for the times that some of the posters over there use AZ for their negative material. At least in my opinion.

I don't post there because I also have a low tolerance for bullshit. However my idea of what BS is and "theirs", meaning a few of the posters there, is different. In my opinion if some of them didn't make it an "us vs. them" thing then they would indeed have a great chance to get more membership and grow.

I don't know if any of you ever play Second Life. In Second Life there is a part of the world called Jessie. In Jessie there is no law and it's constant warfare. Anyone venturing into Jessie is probably going to be shot and "killed" (meaning they have to go all the way back to their starting point in the world to reincarnate). So as a result most of the inhabitants of Second Life avoid Jessie. This is what I compare Jimbo Army to. If you fit in then it's a great place, if you don't then I hope you have a flame retardent vest.

to the threadstarter, thanks for bringing this topic up. I guess by now everytime that there is a mention of Jimbo, nothing comes positive out of it. just look at it now. some anti Jimbo and Jimbo sympathizers are at it again. though I had nothing against Jimbo, if his mere mention creates turmoil, it ain't good. so that makes him the devil. no pun intended. but that's what's happening. both opposing parties should give it a rest by now. to the sympathizers, it doesn't give Jimbo any good, no matter how you defend him. cowdungs will only be thrown back and forth. do you guys love a stinky environment?

This thread does this as well and the originator and others keeps the fire burning bright

Let me make a few points here as "the originator".

I been a member of many forums over the years. Many forums involving many different topics...to many to list and I won't bother trying.I have a pretty good sense of forum behavior and make every effort to not stir the shayt pot.

When I saw the site a few days ago it really got me curious. There was and or is a very anti AZB bend to the whole jive of the place.I considered that, well, odd and unexpected to say the least.

This site and forum has been my most active site for months....and with good reason.IMO you guys rock.I've learned much and hope to learn more as well as get punctual updates on everything that happens in Fatboy's life ;).

Seriously though, this place is the nuts.I did not "originate" this thread to start or restart a flame war with Jimbo or anyone else.As a guy who just kinda stumbled across the place,I wanted to know what was up.I did think there "might" be a problem that I was not aware of due to when I joined on here, hence the note to Mr.Wilson in post #1.

AND further more ....about this "us and them" stuff.....it simply does not exist. It might to some of "them",but surely not all....and if it were halfway prevelent here I would know.I read to much on these forums to have missed it,even as an underlying theme or tone among "us".

Sorry for kicking an old pile of dirt fwiw, but it was not with ill intent, hell I didn't even know the Jimbo story.

(Thanks for the explantions though,I think I get it now and I'm glad I asked....at least now me and Eddie Wheat are up to speed LOL)

Thanks for the clarification, Thunderball! I now see you didn't start this thread to spice up AZB life. I'm reluctantly, kind of glad you asked too. :)

I don't see why people can't post on AZB and JimBo Army without bashing each other. There are informative and entertaining posts on both messageboards. I'm a member of four hockey forums and don't see the animosity, flame wars, or derogatory comments towards women like there are on pool forums... in a sport dominated by men and fights are encouraged! I understand that not everyone is going to get along and be happy friends, but we are adults here! If you don't like someone or someone's post, be civil in your response, if you must respond.

I look at it this way: I don't go to just one pool hall; why limit yourself to only one pool forum? This isn't Highlander. :)

Hangemhigh-

Do yourself a favor. First, open your eyes. Then, try using your head.

No one is calling you a nazi. No one is calling any of the posters here a nazi. The term nAZi was coined as a way of describing the way this site can be, and for along time was ruled with an iron fist. Mods censored things that they deemd offensive. And while that may be a necessity, it must be done with a degree of latitude. What I mean is, what you find offensive I may find completely acceptible. So, who is to decide what's right and what's wrong?! The mods?? Well, Dave Wilson (a nice guy, don't get me wrong), has proven on several occassions that he finds certain things to be slightly more offensive than most other people might. The result was warnings, bans, deleted posts, deleted threads, etc.

THAT is why people began referring to this site as nAZi. No one was calling you a nazi. No one was calling members nazis, per se. The site was dubbed nAZi. Thats all.

It is all tounge in check and the term nAZi is directed at the moderation style, not the individual members of the forum.

I must disagree here. A site is nothing but code running computer hooked up on a network. You can't make such a reference to a site and not have it also apply to the users (or, I imagine in this case, the management) of said site. That's completely disingenouous.

What's also disingenuous, IMHO, is folks going on one site and posting nastygrams about a second site and the posters on said second site - and then themselves participating on said second site and expecting that their comments on the first site would be ignored. Folks like this seem to think that they make the rules on how people can moderate their forums, and that they can bash away on one site, and come over to the second site and suffer no repercussions.

All this comes down to, simply, is the maturity level (or lack thereof, in some cases) of people in general, especially in the relatively safe and anonymous environment of the internet.

I, and many other people, post on both sites. I, and the same group of people, agree AND disagree with administration and some posts/opinions on both sites.

I've also posted things on both sites that I should have thought more about before pressing 'enter', but didn't. Those posts have been addressed.

Good analogy...

"Sometimes you want to go
Where everybody knows your name,
And they're always glad you came;
You want to be where you can see,
Our troubles are all the same;
You want to be where everybody knows your name.'

I normally don't "pile-on" and this isn't meant to do so but I had to acknowledge your post Scott. You have made some very poignant observations and I agree with them. I hope that's all I will say about this thread and while I don't consider any of the other forums off limits, I have some optimism that this thread clears up some misconceptions and allows posters on all forums to see things more clearly and to post with more consideration in regards to their pool-peers.
