Hello Az, I have been watching the forum very closely and I have noticed that there are many New Cue Makers, in addition to many well established who post here daily. My purpose for this post is get opinions, is it better and will you get more attention by building a great product and being humble or is it better to blow your Own horn over and over and over again. I come for the old school, I think personally you should allow your products to speak for themselves.

Where I come from if you must tell everyone how good you are, you have no confidence, and you are looking for a pat on head to help you get through another day. I mean to show people what you are doing and your new designs is a good thing if it is done with humility. However, when you are selling Ocean Front Property in Arizona, sooner of later the false impressions you are creating will come back to Haunt you. In the long run, you can only fool some of the people some of the time, however, you can never fool or hide from yourself.;)

Agree with this 100%! Being humble is the best thing for a cuemaker. People will get tired of hearing the same old song and dance..."My cues are great! You should try them. So and so's cues are crap, buy one of mine!" Shut up and just make the cue and let it do the talking. JMO.

I think a lot can be said for making cues in a bedroom. This should have been an option in your poll.

There are at least two legendary cuemakers who had lathes in their bedrooms.

I chose the humble option, but I'm pretty sure you left the best methods out. Just ask some fellow forum members!!!

I voted for number one!

I voted for number one. Doesn't seem like the way to do things to me but I have to say that the proof is in the pudding. Any publicity seems to be good publicity on these forums. Getting your name out by being pushy and maybe a bit obnoxious seems much faster than sitting back and letting others do the talking for you.

If I decide to push a pool related business on here I'm going to be loud, obnoxious, and boastful, basically the same guy I am now except much more so!

I don't mind if a cuemaker does a little advertising.....especially if he builds cues for a living, but some cuebuilders are a little over the top...example: customer A is very happy with cuemakers B product..customer A writes a positive review for cuemaker B...customer A gets a lot of positive responses in his thread (lets say for instance 117 responses). Cuemaker B participates in the thread (which happens)..Cuemaker B responds to the thread approx. 64 times....That could be considered a little excessive to some people....maybe..

Craig,

I can't help noticing something in an election year. Polls and pol's sound almost exactly the same when I say them. Coincidence? I don't think so!!

there are quite a few cues i would like to try, but it's too big a gamble to buy and possibly not like them. and to ask for someone elses opinion wont do,, they may have totally different tastes. i saw someone about a year ago that made a plain jane and was sending it out to someone to try , when they were through test driving it they sent it to the next person. nobody actually gets to keep it and the maker can get it back ocasinally to see how its holding up.
sounds like a good way to get your unknown product in alot of different players hands.

Hello Carl, that has been done here on AZ, however, I forget who the Cue Maker was.

Have a good day!!!

I can think of quite a few cuemakers who have year or more worth of orders that don't ever advertise. Let their cues, and word of mouth sell them.

I think if you want to get a reputation, easy way to me is to post good quality pictures of your cues. Build a cue that hits good, and have good customer service. The rest will take care of itself.

Nothing.
The heading and the poll question are different.

Marketing of cues only work for a while then repeat orders will be your bread and butter.
