What is the greatest single achievement in sports?

The two things that blew my mind were first: When Philippe Petit walked on a wire between the two World Trade Centers over 1,000 feet in the air. He walked back and forth several times. I think the movie is called Man On A Wire. I have a copy of his book, To Reach The Clouds. I actually called him in New York after reading the book. He was living in a church.

The second was when Robbie Madison did a motorcycle jump in Vegas onto the roof of a ten story building. And then he jumped back down! One small mistake and he was a dead man. Both these guys risked their life in doing these amazing stunts.

I'm waiting for the first wing suit jumper to land with no parachute. It's coming!

Earl's eleven racks is the most amazing thing I've seen in pool and I was right there watching it. He did it on the first day of the tournament on a tight pocket table (4.5") when no one else was running even three racks!

In other sports the Miracle On Ice stands out. In horse racing, Silky Sullivan winning from thirty lengths back was incredible and he did it time and time again. The huge underdog Cassius Clay knocking out Sonny Liston (I bet on him at 10-1) and then Buster Douglas taking down an out of shape Mike Tyson (he was 30-1 at one time!). And how about them Cubbies!

Wilt Chamberlin humping over 20,000 women during his career!

Oh, and that 100 points in one game thingy! LOL

Stones

Do the math. Wilt had a 20 year career. That's 1,000 women a year. That's approximately 3 per day, seven days a week. And that's 3 different each day. Double headers would only count as one.

His 100 point game is at least documented. Methinks Wilt doth exaggerate a wee bit about the hydraulic performance...

All the best,
WW

I will go with the ten year undefeated streak of Edwin Moses, the 400 meter hurdler who won 107 consecutive finals. Borderline ridiculous.

In pool, Darren Appleton's 200 and out in straight pool vs Bustamante is as good as it gets.

I was going to post mentioning Mr. Moses, but I couldn't recall his name.

Thanks for the reminder.

I can't imagine anything in any sport, that will ever top Brady and the Patriots comeback in SB-LI..In pool for instance, Strickland would have to run 50 racks to equal it! ;)

Wow! Whatta game! I have to wonder though...was it the greatest comeback, or was it the greatest choke?

Champions

The game went into the championship minutes. The champions took control!

I will never see that record beaten. What a game.

In a Super Bowl Yes. But nobody can out do the Houston Oilers. They were leading by 32 points at Halftime in a play-off game and lost.

I just watched it myself, and I couldn't believe what I saw. Greatest football game of all time. :clapping::clapping::clapping::clapping:
