What is the one thing you did that improved your pool game a lot?

And please enlighten us all - how do you account for squirt in the use of aiming systems? Not trying to be a smart a$$, but I think that 75% of the AZbilliards users of aiming systems have no idea of what is involved in aiming a pool shot when you throw english into the equation. It is very much like trying to use two dimensional space to try and predict what happens in 4 dimensional space in physics.

BHE.

All Hal Houle systems use BHE.

As has been said in every aiming thread, the same way you do any other time. BHE being the easiest way. But, if you read those threads with the idea of actually learning something, you would already know that.

To the OP- a rock solid PSR.

Thanks for nothing. That doesn't explain anything.

I have 2 years of physics, a minor in engineering and mathematics, a degree in economics with a good understanding of statistical error, and I am telling you I don't have to read aiming threads to KNOW that the margin of error due to squirt is too great to make aiming systems of your sort useable in a professional sense. I am no Dr. Dave LOL, but I wish he would chime in again (sorry if I haven't read his stuff). This is why players like Earl and Sigel 'spin' the ball into the hole. But, like you said, if you had taken the time to research AZ and find the article written on how the pros aimed, 'you would already know that'. And btw, please don't use this hackneyed phrase with me anymore. It is condensending.

guaranteed improvement

two or three hours a session on Joe Tuckers guaranteed improvement drills. Started pool late in life and am not natural at it. Now only 3 or 4 regulars at my hall can beat me(weak room) . Been playing 5 years and many have been at it 15 to 30 years. Drills 2,4,&8 have improved my game the most and all 10 of them are gool. I do not play leage but seem to have easy wins over APA 6' s beat 7's mostly lose to 8's'. Usually have noticeable improvement about every 2 or 3 weeks- drill baby drill

Being taught the shaft method by a good player and table time building confidence in my aiming, along with stepping into the shot right and stance.

I've never had a lesson or instruction. All I had was Willies little red book and billiards book by Hoppe. I learned early on though that good fundamentals showed a marked improvement. However I think the big one for me was being fluid. Getting rid of the hit instinct does that exactly. As that improved so did my shot making, position, speed and using english.

Reading the forums, I think many get lost along the way. I think far to many are consumed with aiming; when their primary concern should be developing a smooth straight stroke. Doesn't matter where or how you aim if your stroke is not reliable. Its called, don't get the cart before the horse.

by far the way that I improved my game quickly was by playing some of the best players that I could play. Even if you are not shooting much you learn alot, and I am very fortunate to work where I play and the best 2 players there give me lessons and teach me drills all the time.

taking a lesson from Tony Robles. A 1-hour lesson which has become countless hours of repeating and rehearsing my fundamentals (which were being masked in the 3-cushion game) has increased my percentages of shot making. I was afraid of wasting money and not taking a lesson until I was "good enough", but in reality the earlier the better.

The single most important thing I learned is that there are many little things that must be practiced until they are under automatic control.

The most important of all those little things was to learn to visualize the center of the OB and CB and to see the CB hit the spot. If you did not see what happened you cannot correct it.

:boring2::confused:
if squirt is a problem
what happened to low deflection shafts???

I am talking about something that you found out about and tried it yourself and it worked real good! It does not matter what it was as long as it worked for your game improvement. Kicks, Banks, stance, aim, stroke, shooting slower, playing safeties, English, bridge position, more time on the table, and anything else that helped! Thanks.

Taking 90/90 lessons from Ron Vitello, and working out with former womens pro Mary Kenniston. I owe both of them alot. Ron is such a great teacher. He really opened my eyes, and Mary has been awesome to work together learning the aiming systems.

Getting rid of the hit instinct does that exactly.

I've never heard it phrased like that - "hit instinct" - but it's perfect. Sounds a little metaphysical but as soon as I read it I knew exactly what you meant, and I've never heard it from an instructor or read it in any book.

Thanks for putting words to the thing that most plagues me. Maybe now that I have words for it I can actually stop doing it!

thanks for your input.

pre shot routine, it slows you down to make better decisions and doesn't cost anything.

Golfers use the techique all of time those practice swings are a part of the same routine no matter what the shot is
