What Is Your Favorite Music For Playing Pool?

Music ...

As long as it is not Rap or Metal, any classic Rock.

Rackem Up is always good ... lol
I like John Melencamp...
And somehow, Cher always plays.

The only things I can't stomach while playing is rap and girl music ( Mariah carey, Brittney Spears, etc )..

I prefer something rowdy though, whether it's classic rock, country...whatever.

My favs are oldies though.

I can almost hear Blood Sweat and Tears....Lucretia Macevil Or Blackfoot.....Train Train.......Outlaws...Green Grass & High Tides

Damn, Makes me realize I don't have any really good tunes here at work!

theres a few times when i remember coming out of the zone for a second to hear a song that just made me jump into perfect rythym. i remember i was just snapping this guy off one time and "devil went down to GA" came on, i dont even like country music but that song is great when ur in a big atlanta pool hall. a couple other ones that come to mind are back in black and hell's bells by acdc. but i also like alot of rap. we used to play lil john in the car on the way to the pool hall to get pupmed up

Music to play by

I like good old black blues. But not loud, I like for it to be in the background. If thats not available the some good classic rock. Still not loud.---Smitty

Why is it every juke box in every pool hall seems to have the same crap on it like your in some time warp that stops in 1988....

Chillin'

My favorite music to play to is music that to me gives a message of both relaxation and fun, while still being up-beat. My absolute favorite to play pool to is Bob Marley, some others being P-Funk, Snoop Dogg's earlier work, Credence, Crosby Stills Nash and sometimes Young, Grateful Dead, and Doobie Brothers.

Ironically (or maybe not) music that seems to be telling me "calm down and enjoy yourself" helps me to focus at a higher level.

My Favorite Sound Is...........

The sound of my opponent counting out the Ca$h.

And I love to hear Willie Nelson sing "On The Road, Again"

Acid Jazz or house while I am practicing at home. In the bar I don't care because I am playing pool & not concerned with what's playing on the box.

I have noticed that, in the bar I play in on league nights, Rap and techno tends to piss off our opponents sometimes. My home bar has a younger crowd that has a typically more "urban" clientel than the rest of our league venues. When teams come to our house sometimes they feel a bit out of place and defiantely dont like the music.

If you know the Seattle area, I am talking about teams from North Bend coming down to play in Kirkland at a bar that plays loud rock, rap, hip-hop and techno. They usually dont care for the music to say the least and I know it gets into their heads. I think that music can definately be a factor during matches to those who cannot tune it out or otherwise could care less about whats playing.

TEMPO, rythem, flow..

RAP!!, or big & rich, or Metalica (newer), ETC.. but I prefer RAP while I am playing, silence during practice hours, but the music during training (in gym) and during a match.. WOW!! talk about getting into a flow and type of a out of body expierence easily 2 balls better...

:D

Is your home room the Shark Club? If it is, I have played there a few times and had fun. I remember the women that were there were nice, dressed to kill, and dancing.

I spent a lot of time in Kirkland and even proposed to my wife on a boulder in Lake Washington directly in front of the Shark Club.

I had some really weird experiences shooting at the Golden Bear (located south of Renton on 167 or some highway number like that). Ran across an older ranch hand that just could not miss. Had to play nasty safeties on him or else he would run out. Also played a girl that was overly tense and aggressive. She did not lose well. So that was fun....

Hi Bill-

No Not the Shark club. We play out of a hole in the wall bar called the Time out about a block er two away from there. We'll be movning to the New Parlor billiards in Bellevue for winter session onwards.

The Shark has some good eye candy but the equipment sucks big time. I used to go there when I was single but not anymore. I am too old for that crowd even at the ripe age of 32.

Moss Bay Park is where those rocks are. Spectacular sunsets from there in the summertime with the Seattle skyline and Olympic Mountains as a backdrop. Nice setting, I am sure your wife was thrilled!

I still get a blast out of the tunes that were on the jukebox in a local dive around the corner from my first apartment, in West New York, N.J. ... This was the summer of 79, so I could get pumped, striding around the table to Springsteen's "Badlands," "Prove it all Night," or "Promised Land." But this was a really funky little place -- half of the regulars were black factory workers and many of the others were butch friends of Mary, one of the owners. It was the kind of place where you'd see a guy sitting alone wasted at 11 a.m. on a hot summer morning, and the bartender would tell you, "Yeah, Busch Cat, he's on vacation this week."

These guys would make the most of one particular tune, and I think I'd probably have a flashback that would drop me to my knees if I were over a shot and Teddy Pendergrass' "Turn Off the Lights" came on. ... "Go, cat go!" might echo through the years for some of youse, but so does: "Ahm gonna give ya a SPECIAL treat, cause ya been so SOOO-WEEEEET!"

I listen to a variety, but this is what's on my mp3 player:

(Alternative Rock) 30 Seconds To Mars, Brand New, Trust Company, Coldplay, The Postal Service

(Christian Rock) Lifehouse, Jonathan and Lisa, Jars of Clay, Point of Grace, dc talk, Casting Crowns, MercyMe, Kutless

(Europop) Nina Persson, The Cardigans, A Camp, The Sundays (Static & Silence)

(Popular/Rock/Folk) Sarah McLachlan, Ani DiFranco, Fleetwood Mac, Third Eye Blind (The Blue Album), Milla, Barenaked Ladies (Rock Spectacle), a-ha, Nelly Fertado, Dido

(Techno/Beats) Venus Hum, Bjork, Blue Man Group (tracks featuring Esthero, Venus Hum, and Dave Matthews)

Just wondering if anyone else ever get's this song stuck in their head :D

Once upon a time, there was a tavern
Where we used to raise a glass or two.
Remember how we laughed away the hours,
Think of all the great things we would do?

Chorus:
Those were the days, my friend!
We thought they'd never end.
We'd sing and dance forever and a day.
We'd live the life we'd choose.
We'd fight and never lose.
For we were young and sure to have our way!
Di di di di…

Then, the busy years went rushing by us.
We lost our starry notions on the way.
If, by chance, I'd see you in the tavern,
We'd smile at one another and we'd say,

Those were the days, my friend!
We thought they'd never end.
We'd sing and dance forever and a day.
We'd live the life we'd choose.
We'd fight and never lose.
Those were the days, oh yes those were the days!
Di di di di…

Just tonight, I stood before the tavern.
Nothing seemed the way it used to be.
In the glass, I saw a strange reflection.
Was that lonely woman really me?

Those were the days, my friend
We thought they'd never end
We'd sing and dance forever and a day
We'd live the life we'd choose
We'd fight and never lose
Those were the days, oh yes those were the days!
Di di di di…

Through the door, there came familiar laughter.
I saw your face and heard you call my name.
Oh my friend, we're older but no wiser,
For in our hearts, the dreams are still the same.

Those were the days, my friend!
We thought they'd never end.
We'd sing and dance forever and a day.
We'd live the life we'd choose.
We'd fight and never lose.
Those were the days, oh yes those were the days!

I am surprised that none of the posts I have read in this thread so far have matched the music they like with the pool game they are playing.

For myself, I like something driving when playing 9-Ball. The first Audioslave album is my favorite. Rage Against the Machine is good too. There must be something about a Tom Morello guitar riff. Zeppelin, Alice in Chains are good too. It just has to rock! I like to feel like to feel like the villain while I dismantle one opponent after another.

But if I am playing one-pocket or 14.1, then I need something a little less aggressive. I prefer jazz, classical or blues here. Even dead quiet without any music is okay.

There are a few songs and bands I detest while playing 8-Ball. There's one song (don't know the artist) that says "You're always scratching on the 8-Ball, Nobody knows the reason why..." I hate this song. More than once I have been playing a game of 8-Ball. I scratch the 8 and loose, only to realize that stupid song started playing during my turn. I am unlucky enough as it is. I don't need a song to remind me.

I don’t like rap regardless of the activity. I really don’t understand why anybody does. Just my opinion.

Anything but rap!!! We actually went to an APA National Qualifier where they always blasted rap till it made your ears blow out. Our captain put in $100 in the jukebox and played country, Elvis, everything else that was counter to rap....jazz, etc. Place was nice and enjoyable all evening....BTW, we won the qualifier, $5000 and went to Vegas.......

I recently bought a pair of Oakley Thumps (tribal 512) and I have Manson's "Beatuiful People" looped 15 times and his version of "Personal Jesus" intermixed.

I have different play lists set up. The one I mentioned is for when I practice.
