I took off the last 3 months from pool for conservative treatment of a shoulder that's giving me issues (no pool, no heavy duty activities, and lots of healthy food and vitamins). There was moderate pain and weakness. Though the pain and weakness improved, I can tell this is a problem that might not resolve on its own. I started shooting pool again last week and there comes the pain and the weakness again. My game is as good as ever, but it is hard to fully enjoy it when your shoulder hurts. In a couple weeks I am doing what I should have done in the beginning...seeing a Sports Medicine specialist. Being away from pool for the last three months has been a major bummer. I've picked up chess and really enjoy it, but it is certainly not the same. I'm thinking I might be away from pool for as long as another year. I guess I shall see.
For those who have dealt with injuries, how long have injuries kept you away from the table and how have you dealt with it?
And by the way, I played through minor pain because I'm a pool addict and this is how I developed a condition which seems chronic. I didn't listen to my own body. You live and you learn.
