What Is Your Pool-Related Superstition ?

Generally speaking I am not a superstitious person. However, when it comes to pool, I do have one.

Here's it is:

Whenever playing in any meaningful/important match, I need to have at least one shiny penny and a quarter in my pocket. It's okay if there is more than one penny but they all have to be real shiny. And all of the paper money on my clip has to be facing the same way and placed in order of denomination.

I'm interested to know what some of my fellow azers pool-related superstitions are.

I have to at least do one head spin on the pool table and break with the but of the cue the first match in order to take the game seriously...:rolleyes:
 
I have to have my lucky Good Equipment when I play. I find if I don't have my level table, fresh cloth, nice cue or polished balls with me, I don't play as well as I could.
 
For some reason I can't stand to rack a rack of 8 ball and allow the "6" to be in this position! I know its stupid and I hate superstitions but......

I never finish a practice session on a miss. If need be, I'll setup a short straight in shot to finish. :cool:

I've been doing that all my life...never quit on a bad hit.
..but I think that is just good thinking rather than a superstition.

I've had omens that something good or bad was going to happen....
...but I think that it is observable phenomena that is too subtle to
register in the front of my mind....I call it it 'warning bells'.
I once made a 'white flag' in a high stakes snooker game when I
had 26 points with 27 on the table...a friend asked me why I went
for that shot...I told him that it was game ball for both of us....my
opponent was feeling strong and ready to run out.
 
I used to have two-sided pocket markers that I couldn't stand to have showing a certain side up. It just threw me off for whatever reason. I don't have superstitions, it was just something that bothered me. I now have a different pocket marker.
 
I like to have 3 cubes of chalk on the rails. Anywhere spread out. not 1 or 2 must be 3. Any brand pretty much -just has to be 3.
If there are 4, I take one off.
 
We used to call it the "hex"...

Back when I played league, whenever our guy was staring down the barrel of a loss, one of us would put the 'hex' on his opponent...

Imagine the 'rock and roll' symbol with your fingers. Rest the cue against the middle and ring fingers, between the knuckles (where your wedding ring would be). Curl the other two fingers (index and pinky) around the cue shaft, then cover the entire thing with your opposite hand.
(It's not my best work of art below, but you get the idea)...

Viola, instant hex !!!

And at some point during the game, the opponent would either miss a shot, or (more frequently) screw themselves on position.

You could always tell how serious any particular game was depending on how many guys were holding thier cues and had the 'hex' on it.

It was funny and creepy at the same time...

All chalk on the table needs to be facing upright. I will correct any chalk that is turned down before I shoot. It's probably half superstition and half etiquette.
I also don't like to wish my opponent "good luck" before the match. I'll usually reply with a "let's have a good match".

I don't know if they are superstitions or not,

but I like only quarters in my left front pocket, and all other coins in the right pocket.

I like all my bills going the same way with largest to smallest so smallest is on the outside.

I always take 4 initial strokes, 5 smoothing strokes, and break on the 10th stroke.
 
I've cycled through several "lucky" coins, only to realize that I'm allergic to good luck and have a strong aversion to money. All of my superstitions end up sharking me somehow and I rarely come out winner. Apparently I should practice.
 
I'm always nervous about letting my mind wander to what's next, if i win the current game/match. Seems any time I catch myself doing it, I go right in the tank.

Not really a superstition, but i seem to react similarly.

haha, I always call heads and always try to avoid flipping the coin.

My main thing is when playing 9 ball, the 8 ball can never be on the bottom point. The 9 always goes in on the break it seems when it's in that position.
