What Joint Is This?

If it came from Taiwan, you could have a Chinese thread.
Their Radial and Uni Loc style threads are different for example.
I don't know a lot about the differences in threads but I do know from the ones that I have worked on. Nothing fits them. Close, but No Cigar. Close only counts with hand grenades and Horse shoes. And S hit Fights.

If you really like the butt, take it to a repairman and have him change the pin for you.
Much less aggravation for you in the long run. Won't cost a ton either.

Remove pin
Bore out hole
Plug
Bore and re tap for your choice of pin

I'm a serious OCD repair man and I can do one fairly quickly.

Hmm okay. I'm wondering how much does it cost on your side? I'm just trying to do a comparison with my country's repairman. There's only 1 though. If its very expensive, I'll just put this cue butt aside.

Cues from Taiwan & China can have a different pitch on their joint, could very well be your problem.

I put the pic of this pin up on a big screen and it looked to be 5/16-18
From my laptop it looked different, more like 5/16-14

This is great advice. You are not likely to get a definite answer through the internet. If you cannot figure it out on your end with some of the advice you have received in these posts, repinning will work. In the US, the cost would be reasonable. As the quoted post says, if you like the butt, this is a good option. No surprises in ordering a new shaft.

Well...just order a shaft with a 5/16-14 piloted thread and if it doesn't fit, just run a 5/16-18 tap in the hole.

It will be a double thread and will work fine.:D

And if that don't work, just run a 5/16-18 die over the threaded stud on the butt.

Just wondering, so will it fit the break shaft that I intend to get from Ebay as mentioned in my 1st post?

Thats actually quite a bit of difference, an extra 4 threads per inch is about 25%.

No way they fit each other.

I'd take your butt to a hardware store and try to fit nuts on until you find the winner.

Do you have a set of calipers? If so just meassure 1/2" of the pin and count the full threads then x2.

I count 10 full threads, so if the threaded portion of the pin is 3/4"ish long that would equal a 14 TPI thread. If its closer to 1/2" of threads your looking at the 18 pitch thread.

You're right. That's why I said to use a bolt, and not a nut. There are 4 threads difference in 1".
There is only 1 thread difference in 1/4" and the loose threaded nuts they sell in Home Depot
might thread on. You won't find any non standard 5/16-14 bolts or nuts in the hardware store.
