What % of your shots do you believe you use spin/English on?
Yes, This!!I spin nearly every shot except straight in's. I will qualify that it's usually slightly favoring one side of the cue ball or the other. These shots don't necessarily result in much spin, but allow the cue ball to return from the rail at a finely controllable angle. The other reason is to counter skid or throw.I also almost always hit below or above center too - again mainly for fine cue ball control.
As far as actually hitting a tip or more outside of center for English, maybe 10% - 20% of my shots. Playing a tip or more out is where I feel there is a greater chance of missing due to misjudging the forces of English.
This is what an old road player (My Dad) told me 60 years ago. He to him said, "Stop putting all that $hit on the ball. You might think it looks cool, but did you know more spin you use the less money you'll have in your pocket at the end of the night? The better you can control that white SOB, the less need for sidespin. You don't need to spin if you get the position right. Get on the next shot right and all you need is maybe, a little running English.
I wish I would have listened to him more back then...but I knew everything back then. What took me years to figure out, I had been told right from my first playing days. Johnnyt
A lot. I remember in the TAR podcast, Dennis Orcullo said that he almost never hits center ball. I'm in the same camp.
I used to spin everything..
I don't use spin, I use twirl' I pocket more balls with twirl.

What % of your shots do you believe you use spin/English on?
If you consider yourself a B player or above and you say you don't use side spin on most of your shots (in rotation games), then I think you fall into at least one of the following categories...
A) You are intentionally lying.
B) You are actually not aware you use side spin on most of your shots.
C) You are not a B player or better, but rather a C player or worse.
D) You are living in a universe where friction doesn't exist.
I know 'D' is impossible and I'd rather not think most people are dishonest, so I think 'B' applies to most of these people.
It's all about a matter of degree, but for any good player playing a rotation game, you are hitting the ball off the CB's vertical axis more than most of the time.
