What pro's aren't playing with Low Deflection shafts?

Josh some of the people here might not know you or the speed you play. Having said that I have to say I think you play pretty sporty. By the way Corky said he wants to come over and hit some balls. I hope all is well and it will be good to see you at some tournaments soon. So lay off on some of that fishing and get your butt back in stroke. When you were playing there weren't many that wanted any.

Well thanks, but I drove down for a tournament that I played 4 days total before it- And I either shot straight, or didn't. sucks when your cue ball is constantly coming up a foot and a half short each time, and you can't correct it! Tell Corky to call me 530-356-0092

Good catch. He now plays with his mother's Runde Schon, not sure about the shaft. I think it may be a Joss or Joss East shaft. If anybody knows for sure post it here and I will change it in the "official" list on the other forum.
It's the stock joss east shaft that he has always used, he has 2 of them. The butt is a Schon, shaft is joss east.. About 2 years ago he was using an ob-1, it broke and they didnt send him another one, so that ended that. And yes, I know for sure....

A couple years ago he was playing some with a Kikel cue with I believe the original shaft. I hit a couple balls with it--nice cue.

The Kikel was mine, err I should say he got it from me, and has since traded that back to hi mom for the schon. Funny thing about the Kikel, its unmarked except under the wrap. When I got it long ago, from who I want to say was Mark who worked for Muellers or sumthin, he said it was one of Daves 1st 10 cues as they were old friends. Who knows for sure as I've heard that statement about many cues and cuemakers over the years.

for sure

jj suited is correct! hey jay, anyway i have put tips on the shaft he uses and its the joss east! that is a fact! :D

Well, if he's still using the one I saw on there on the 31st December, steal it and put a new one on. He had miscued all night and it looked like he was still using the same one at the derby. Any shorter he'd of been chalkin the ferrule. You guys take care down there. I've been putting my que together a bit more often lately, so I may see you guys a bit more in the future. BTW I spent some money in Pheonix last week (Scott Frost)... Anyway the tables were tight as a prom queens.... whatever, I got roasted but had a great time and made a few new friends. Later, Jay

hurry up and put another tip on it soon, i saw it at JOB's and the crown of the tip was worn down to the ferrel, there was no side left, at the Derby there was a little left, before that at the Mosconi cup it was a thin side, now its gone. he will damage the ferrel, he was laughing about it at JOB's when he showed me, man he plays alot to wear a tip down that fast. I dont think anyone out there plays as much as Shane does, except Chris Bartrum. Those guys play ALOT wow. The other top guys need to get off their asses and play or they will just keep watching SVB win everything......

Eric, you are so right. I begged him when I saw him last to put a tip on that. Tried to explain that a tip costs him 10 bux and hes got 10 thou ridin on the light. Just never could get that across I guess. He probably still has the same tip on...

I've seen pictures of that shaft and it looks like it has a very long pro taper on it. Am I right or did I see wrong?

Top players, it seems to me, don't need a high tech shaft nearly as much as most of us do. They play daily, often times several hours a day, and they know exactly how their shaft will react to off-center hits.

It's people like me that benefit from high tech low deflection shafts, so that I don't have to be concerned about how much deflection will occur on a given shot. I have friends who play much better than I who are accustomed to their equipment and have no need for the high tech shaft. Seems like the better a guy plays the less he needs the low deflection shaft.

It also seems to me that playing one pocket or 14:1 would not require that a player make shots at a long distance and requiring heavy english so a high deflection shaft would be less helpful to that player than a 9 ball or 10 ball player. Am I correct is this uneducated assumption?

Am I the only one that thinks Shane might know what he is doing:D?

I was thinking of getting away from the taper I have now and going back old school to a longer taper. I'm 6'3 and have a long stroke but I feel like I'm shortening it up with that super pro(??) taper.

Wild guesses:
1. He was breaking with it.
2. The OB-1 guys don't want to see an OB-1 snapped during the break shot on TV.

Breaking with the OB-1

Nervous Novice,

I want to make sure that everyone know's our stand on breaking. At OB Cues, we warrant the OB-1 Cue Shaft for life! What this means is that if it fails from normal use, then we will fix or replace it, period. Breaking is part of pool, and considered normal use, so that would not keep us from honoring our obligations. If someone breaks it because they bend it against the table and it snaps, then that would not be considered normal use, and would most likely not be covered by Warranty. We might, depending on the circumstances, replace the cue shaft anyway as a gesture of goodwill.

I met Shane a few years back when he came to Dallas with Danny Watson. He impressed me very much, and we did give him an OB-1 to try out. My communications with him were that he liked it and was playing well with it.

I was not aware that Shane was not playing with the OB-1 until much later when I saw him at the Derby City in January of 2007.

I don't know what happened to cause Shane to stop playing with it, but I would be happy to talk with him if there were any issues that have not been resolved. Shane is not only a very good player, but more importantly he is a gentleman and a class act. Pool definately needs as many people like Shane as possible.

yeah its down to the ferrel, i'm not exaggerating, it was worn almost to the ferrel at the Derby, at JOB's it was just a crown and ferrel, NO side wall at all, none not .0002". he had to have changed it by now ot he will need a new ferrel, think i'll ever learn to spell?
