What shoes for pool?

My special shoes

Somethings really weird. Every time I wear this pair I can't go around the right side of the table.

I wear PF flyers...comes with a free whistle....drives my opponents nuts!

I always wear thongs as my feet sweat a lot. A pair of Nike running shoes would be perfect, comfortable, light, durable, and stylish :D

ya new balance. all the players that play well use them. just something i noticed. actually thought of making a collage of all the players shoes that wore new balance sense it seems everyone wheres them. they are comfortable. took a picture of mike masseys new balance shoes when i was in vegas. pretty tight.

as long as it grips the floor well then it's fine. i use a pair of nike dunks. i remember one time we were playing, my shoes were sliding on the floor. i had to put coffee under the sole just so it sticks. :)

I've never had any trouble with my Chippewa engineer boots, but I have no shoe recommendations since I haven't owned a pair of shoes in 4-5 years.

Stuart Pettman, great pool player and former snooker pro, plays in bare feet most of the time.

I like shoes that have soft soles, but some sort of support. I have several pairs of Clark's shoes that I usually choose from. One pair is their Desert Boot style and the others are something similiar.

For my preferences, I like the more "stable" feel of the shoe coming up to my ankle and to top it off, they look a bit more presentable than sneakers when you are wearing them with something other than jeans. :)

These are the best shoes money can buy. My personal. U can't miss with these on. Run out from anywhere.

I used to play at a pool hall in Chapel Hill NC called Oscar's. On one of the league nights there was a rather large good ol boy that we nicknamed Flabbio. He would play barefooted, what was really outrageous was he went to the damned nasty mens room that way also. Used to make me cringe to go in there with shoes on!!!!

I work as an orthopedic physical therapist, and see a lot of foot injuries related to improper shoe wear. My advice to you would be to get the best pair of running shoes you can. I would go to a good running store where they will watch you stand, walk, and possibly run, and put you in a shoe that is designed to support your foot type. Don't just go to a Foot Locker and buy shoes. A running shoe will give you the best combination of arch support and cushioning that will aloow prolonged standing with less pain.

For pool players, why isn't a "walking shoe" better than a "running shoe"?

Thanks,
JoeyA

P.S. I have been using Mephistos for everyday wear and playing pool. Always looking for something else that will be better for playing pool for LONG PERIODS OF TIME.

For the record, I see the younger pool players wearing a lot of Nike running shoes. I wonder if the foot needs are the same for older players.

I also agree about the Gel Inserts. Another good product is that insert that is available from the machines at Sam's Club and drugstores around the country. (They're not gel but they support your feet well because they are contoured for your particular feet needs)

if u are looking for light and comfortable shoes it would be hard to beat tennis shoes worn by tennis players, the nike airmax's i bought a few years ago were the same that rafael nadal wore, 1st pair of shoes i ever bought that felt like they were broken in as soon as i put them on

New Balance Running shoes in Widths are my favorites for at the Hall...In the Man Cave I wear Crocs those are the most comfortable shoe I have ever worn I have bad wheels and size 14 feet...Feets don't fail me now.

Hell the Crocs are so comfortable I would think about wearing them to the Hall and putting up with the ration of shit:grin-square:

In my case,K Swiss or Air Jordan. At one time,I was partial to the classic Reebok Ex-O-Fits,high topped with the velcro strap at the top. I can't find them anymore except online. Tommy D.

Never wear converse shoes for pool. They are freaking uncomfortable.

But I got used to mine, took me a month to get them broken in for pool.

Personally I wear Adiddas court shoes. I think its pertty important that you are comfortabe to play well, but I have never really considered shoes. Several months ago he company that makes Black Heart tips began to market pool shoes. They are an athletic shoe and they remind me a lot of a skateboard shoe. I think they were available for about $70

Another thing that is part of the equation of choosing the best pool shoe is your age. As you age, some of the padding in the bottoms of your feet start to thin out. Circulation most likely plays an important part as well.

But more importantly, I think, is the length of time that you play pool and the frequency. I see players like Richie Richeson, play for 24 hours and he can barely walk afterwards and he is not what I would consider an old dude.

Sooner or later, a shoe company is going to realize the potential of having shoes designed for pool players of all ages.

I am most comfortable in my Nike's. Basic, low top, plain white Nike's.

I have to stand on my feet, on floors that have carpet tiles over cement, for 8-10 hours a day. Fortunately, we have been allowed to go to plain black sneakers the last couple of years, but before that, finding footwear that was acceptable for the dress code and still comfortable was a challenge.

I cannot imagine playing in a tournament or league in dress shoes. Or some of the things I see people wear.
