What Should Never Be Done or Allowed at a Pool Hall

I could care less what the hippies are doing over by the dart boards. Just stay away from the pool tables.

I don't think it would bother me that much. At least not anymore than somebody dumping $10 into the jukebox and playing country music

It's spelled "Renaissance." And while it would be disturbing to me (I hate poetry), a good pool player should be able to block that out. I'm not even a good pool player and I've learned to block out (c)rap music when it starts up...

Stay outta my way and don't interfere with my table time and I don't care what happens in the rest of the place.

What's the problem?

Now you got 'english' being used on both sides of the room.

..and the paucity of 'rhyme and reason' is likely in sync also

I could just sing them really, really loudly instead. Actually I prefer Jazz or Blues while playing but, "What Was I Thinkin'?" by Dierks could certainly fit some evenings.

LOL tks for the word correction.

I had it close the first time, and my spell checker... appears to have gotten it wrong. DOH!

If it brings people through the doors and helps the owner keep those very same doors open to the pool playing community then bring in a circus act with midgets for all I care.

I think spell checker is akin to aiming and kicking systems.
It doesn't make intelligent 'context' decisions.

Most the players up in Flagstaff are B and C players and there really isn't much for tournaments in the area. (There are 1 or 2 'A' players too)

Plus if they are locals, having poetry readings and hippy dances are pretty normal and probably wouldn't bother them.

Now if you had some out of towners in there trying to hustle the locals, they might have a little home town advantage :D

I went in strokers 2 in tampa the fridaynight before Tony Crosby`s tour event and they had live wrestling going on. The was set up in the middle of the poolhall.Try making a shot with people yelling and somone getting slammed on the mat.

Poetry in a pool hall is not wrong. I would listen to the poetry get my head right and get up and put together a 3 pack or something. What is on the jukebox, poetry set to music. I have to say I disagree with the article writer. Country music is not wrong in a pool hall either. Bring on the tunes, the beats, the poetry, watch the poetry on the table that is pool.

How best to get people talking about something than set controversy, and pick a side.

Im not against poetry in the least, but after spending so much time in bars and pool halls, and meeting the people there, poetry readings in one was the LAST thing I would expect.

last thing

poetry readings in one was the LAST thing I would expect.

Back in the early seventies a partner and I were in a naked dancing lady bar with a few pool tables in a side room. We were ripped to the max, a pretty common state in the early seventies. This little old gray haired lady missionary in one of the very puritan looking black dresses came through the door. The dress looked to be a few hundred years old complete with black ruffles across the front, the lady didn't look a day over 90 though.

She was carrying a tray with some kind of little lapel pins on it and giving them after collecting a two dollar donation. She went up to everyone in the place including us and then toddled on back out the door. My friend and I looked at each other, "Did that really just happen? Did you see her too?"
