I'm watching the West Coast Classic Semi #1 on ESPN, it's K. Corr vs. K. Fisher, not really sure of the score as I am also busy playing poker and reading my new book (The Zombie Survival Guide).

But right before they went to commercial break, they showed a clip of Gerda Hoffaduffastedafluffa doing the segue, and this is what she said. . . and I quote:

"You are watching the West Coast Classic, don't you go no way."

Don't you go no way? What the hell is that supposed to mean? Maybe if her english improved, she would get more TV time on the table.

I don't think your comments are fair nor are they in the true spirit of international sport. Why does one slip-up with someone’s SECOND language merit mention on this forum?

Ace, how many languages do you speak fluently?
I believe Gerda speaks Swedish, German and English.

Frankly even though I speak French, Italian and Roumanian, I would not give the person who initiated this thread any of my time let alone a reply to his worthless post. I've better things to do with my energies.

I thought Gerda's closing line was cute. Kind of like a Southern "Y'all come back now, hear?" :p

There's a difference Jam, the saying you posted makes sense, her's didn't.

"Don't you go no way" makes no sense at all, and it just goes to show the lack of editing on ESPN's part.

And as far as her speaking English fluently, I'm going to have to disagree on that.

Gerda is a very intelligent, articulate woman. Also... she doesn't get TV table time because of her ability to speak English. She gets on TV because she's earned it by winning her matches. As far as her "not" being fluent in English, you are dead wrong.

Gerda is a close friend of mine and she speaks English superbly. If she made an error in grammar, so be it. Then again, if what she said was "Don't you go. No way!" then she was within the boundaries of good grammar. Either way, what's the difference?

If we were to scrutinize the misuse of the English language by American-born professional players like this, it would be a very long time before we ran out of material.

How many languages do you speak Aceshigh? And what the hell is a "semi pro" poker player  Is you is or is you ain't :p

One language, and semi pro means that I play for half my income, hence the word, semi.

I can't believe no one here sees what this post is really about, the fact that ESPN didn't make Gerda redo the line that she obviously flubbed.

Why are you obsessing? Who cares if a grammatical faux pas was committed? What hidden message do you glean from the fact that ESPN saw fit to leave the broadcast as-is? Please enlighten me.

Im guessing she said "don't you go nowhere" a perfectly accepable colloquialism IMHO.

Hey Lori Ann, are those Glamor Shots? You really didn't pose like that at home did you?

True that.
How many times have we heard, " he/she played GOOD "?
I'd be shocked it 20% of them knew what an adverb is.

Splinter,

My name's Lora and yes they are glamour shots. You have a keen eye, my friend. My other vice is photography and I have a million shots of everything including yours truly. I am sorry if it looks too contrived but I simply love the hat.

Lora

Well, English is not that hard of a language to learn. In fact I started speaking it when I was about 1 year old without any formal training. :D

And since then the number of languages that I can speak fluently are...uh...well, counting English it is One. ;)

Acehigh, you are making something out of nothing. Gerda is a super intelligent and eloquent person. I think I see your point of ESPN editing, but this quote was humorous, as opposed to their usual crappy editing and inane commentary from Mitch Loser-ence. I liked it.
