What tip do you use

Tips, tips, tips....

I've been trying new tips but i can quite find what i'm looking for. I keep coming back to LaPro's Med-Hard but they just don't hold up very well and i'm tired of replacing or messing with them. I'm looking for a simular hit and play without all the hassle. Price isn't a concern. Thanks,

I started out using Lepro`s and used them for years. I disliked the inconsistantcy also and wanted to try something new. I tried a Moori medium on a friends suggestion and I loved it. I don`t want to ever have to shoot with anything else. There are some good suggestions for tips in this thread. I would suggest you try out a couple of the most popular tips and see what you like best.

Jason what direction did you sand your tip? You should sand from the center to the edge of the, tip if you scuff in the opposite direction you can pick up the layers. If you put on hard/quick moori you may find that a medium is more comparable to a lepro.

I swear by hercules 2 tips which have 12 layers. I still like the originals which are 23 layered, but the 12 layered give more control.

For the most part I like a hard tip and my favorites are old-stock Mooris, Sumo, or some nicely pressed Milk duds.

I love my Sniper. I have tried Moori's, Talisman's, Hercule's and many other layered tips and none have the feel and consitency my Sniper has.

Yep, I love the Sniper too. It does last a long time.

I've been playing with a Moori medium for the past few months and never liked a tip better. I like Triangles OK and have them on a couple of cues, and Snipers a little less, because they seemed to get a little greasy and not hold chalk, or my shots, as well as I would like.

Talisman WB medium.

LWW,

How do they compare to the Talisman WB hard?
Softer i know, but how much?
Could you give a comparison to maybe Sumo, WB and Moori Med/Quick?

Thanks,

Jon

Used Moori Medium for a couple of years, when I got my Scruggs cue, Moori Slow felt better for some reason and will not use any other tip on my cue. My Falcon JB has a phenolic jumpcue tip and just works awesome !

Slow

I just switched from a Moori Med to Moori soft and so far so good.

I have always thought it was moori SLOW not soft. That is what I have on my predator shaft. Works well for me. I do also play a lot with the production cues I sell that have Lepro hard or med. hard they seem to hold up well. I don't notice that great a difference in performence as long as you make a practice of using a tip-pik. Like you see those guys and think they are trying to start a fire don't grind on the tip and it will last. If you don't have a hard tip you should also be using a seperate break cue.

Ah, doesn't matter what the S stands for. It used to be called Soft, but nowadays it's Slow. Go figure. Still plays nice and holds shape relatively well and very difficult to get it to miscue...

I used to like LePro's also. I worked for a billiard retailer part time in San Antonio when I lived there. We found that the LePro's that we bought in the 25 piece boxes picked up a lot of moisture during storage/shipping. The ones in the 500 piece plastic bags were sealed up better and cut better when you installed them. I used to scuff the back of the tip, put it on a paper towel and microwave the crap out of it prior to install. Sometimes that helped harden them up some.

Define microwave the crap out of it..... 30 sec, 1min or 10min? Sounds interesting maybe I'll try it.

I used to swear by Lepro hard tips. I have since switched to a Talisman Pro Med. and I can't believe what I have been missing! Hits like a dream, lasts forever and needs practically no maintenance. Even though mine looks like it's shiny and won't hold chalk it still does, seems like I never need to rough it up. Oh, and for a layered tip of that quality you can't beat the price. Check out the site they always have a special running.

Just my .02 FWIW, at any rate, happy tip hunting!

With Moori soft/slow I would always get a lot of mushrooming on new tips.
Recently switched to Moori medium, and get no mushrooming at all and it plays real good.

I have tried most of them...I like Triangle for unlayered, I used to like Moori Medium, switched to Moori Slow, had some trouble with a bad batch coming unlayered (separating), and went with Talisman Soft. After they pack down a little, they are great.
