just curious as to what type of hit do you like and why??

example: stiff vs whippy shaft, hard vs soft tip, euro vs pro taper, wrap vs no wrap, etc.

dont forget the most important part of the question: WHY??

I like a stiff hit, medum-hard tip, pro taper, and most definitely wrapped. Irish linen is my first choice in a wrap but my main playing cue is wrapped in leather because of the humidity here in Japan. My other cues are wrapped in linen but I usually don't use them during the summer months, especially on really humid days. The wraps soak up all the moisture. Uggghh!!

Hi I like medium to medium soft hit.Best tips i like is sniper and kamui medium.I dont like the ivory ferrule hit rather prefer a melamine ferrule.

I come from a snooker background so am use to playing with rather soft tips. Also i tend to miscue more with harder tips.I am more a touch player i guess.

Also i met roberto gomez in a tournament in bangkok couple of months back and i played a few practice racks with him. When i asked him which tip he plays with he said most of the philipino players dont use a layered tip and play with elkmaster tips.I was as amazed as u would be reading this.unfortuately i lost to ronnie alcano in that tournament in last 32.it was thailand open 9 ball:)

I prefer stiff shaft, Z2 taper, hard tip, very crisp hit, no wrap. Why? Because that's what I like.

This is like asking me if I can define Porno... I know it when I feel it....

I'm shooting with a McDermott with an I2 shaft with a moori med. I like the balance of the McD, it just feels like it is part of your hand.
I guess I know what I like, I have 2 McDs configured the same way, and a third one on the way with the only change being the new one having a leather wrap.

funny you should ask

I am fixing to build myself a new shaft. I went with a very stiff lively set-up the last few times around and realize that while this may be close to the "norm" right now it isn't what I like.

I'll be building a 12.75mm shaft with a milk dud or hand selected plain elkmaster on it and it will have a fairly soft ferule and joint collar. The pro taper will grow about .015" in the first fourteen inches and then open into a gentle parabolic taper. Not a shaft most would like but aside from anything else I think it may help me with speed control which has been elusive for me most of the time lately.

Ever dig through a bag of Cheetos and find one of those really concentrated hard and crunchy ones? That's the best way to describe the hit that I like. Quick, firm, dry and crispy.

Firm , mid to high frequency feedback in the palm of my hand at impact.

Cue should feel alive and hum like a fine classical guitar or violin.

IMO. :)

I like a Meucci cue hit with the older shafts.

I like to let the cue do the work and a solid hit with stock oem tip on it. The older no dot shafts absorb the impact well and is very solid.
I like the Meucci smaller tapered shafts but Predator 314 is nice also. Z shafts are too small for my taste but I like it also.

I cannot hit with 13mm shafts, just too big and doesn't let me english as well as the smaller shafts. I like Stainless jonts and brass pins.

I like a buttery hit. That's the only way I can describe it.

Ivory joint/ferrules and wrapless. I can love it all day.

I like a full splice cue, 19 ounces, wood to wood joint, 11mm shaft, milk dud tip, 15 inch pro taper, stack leather wraps.

The hit I prefer is the "normal" one a full splice butt provides. Has resonance and comes up through the shaft into the butt and makes a sweet sound and pleasant vibration. I like the milk dud tip as it is plenty hard, which I like, and puts english on the ball easily. The hit should be crisp. One fellow commented when shooting with one of my cues that it felt like he was "sticking" the ball. If that makes any sense to you, it's the feel I like.

Also, although the shaft is only 11mm, with the short ferrule and milk dud tip, the shaft doesn't feel particularly "whippy" to me, although others will disagree. Obviously, the quality of the shaft wood is key to having a firm hit with such a slim shaft.

I guess I prefer what I'm used to....But that could always change with the next cue... I'm always open to try out different cues with different hit and feel to them but it looks like I will always end up with a Predator shaft on any cue I'll have...
I've been playing with the Z-2 shaft for the last few months and I like it.

I like the joint type that is on my Jacoby and my Lucasi, it's a metal sleeve but there is still wood (and what appears to be phenolic) contact with the shaft that generates a medium-hard hit.

I like hard tips and so far the Kamui hard tip is the best I've ever tried.

I like leather wraps but I feel uncomfortable with them when humidity is high so Irish linen is my favorite for a player cue.

Good cueball action, low squirt and most of all great feel.
I want a cue that tells me what I did ( be feel ) after each shot.

I'm not experienced enough or smart enough to know exactly what type of hit I like. I like the hit of my Schon with a triangle tip and 12.75 mm shaft so that's what I play with. Is it soft, hard, medium, I don't know. There may be another cue out there somewhere that I would like better but I don't play with a lot of cues so I probably won't change any time soon.

tip: kamui (med/soft)
shaft: predator 314-2 (soft ferrule)
joint: 3x8"-11, ivory. (great feel/feedback)
wrap: no wrap and i like a bit of an oversized butt diameter (9" above End of Butt Cap): 1.181" i find i hold the cue very far back from playing snooker, the oversized butt helps me to shorten my stroke and force me to choke up on the cue.

i dont know why but iv always thought a cue with a ebony forarm hit better, maybe its all in my head:scratchhead:
