Skim the 7 and slide the CB behind the 8.
Yuh,,,but I like to go 3 rails, as pictured, R/ top/ bottom rails should allow you to ~control the 7 and keeps you from having to hit the cb like a pussy.
But wait...there are dead rails.

As I first read the post/situation, I was trying to visualize cutting the 7 such that it hit the top side rail, and left it in the middle of the end rail, leaving the CB back somewhere near the 8.
Then I read Spideys post and said to myslef, stop trying to do too much! (I try to remind myself of this regularly. Helps keep me out of trouble.)

Use the two-times-fuller system to send the cue ball just to the left of the 8 and then back out to freeze to the back of it.

I would try and lay the cueball on the left end rail. If you try to freeze to the 8 and miss by an inch either way, there will probably be an easy shot on the 7.
If you go for the end rail, even if there is an open shot on the 7, it won't be easy, and wouldn't even be an easy safe.

But I agree with you: seems like shooting CB toward R) would throw OB in same direction...
That's what the outside english is for. With frozen CB/OB you can get lots of throw and transferred spin (but the CB's path is wrong with that much spin).
