What's the best Break/jump cue?

Hi,
i just gave my custom break cue to a friend of mine as present and now looking for one.

What would you recommend me to get?

I love jump/break cue but on the other side have seen pro players using those short jump cues.

Should I buy 2 cues?

Some help will be appreciate

Hey, Jump break cues are great and that is what I use, However when you need to jump on bar tables or have jump shots that are close some people find it easier to use the short jump cues. I just sold a rick howard jump break with a phenolic/white diamond tip combo it is the best jump break I have ever owned and I highly recommend Ricks cues. If you are looking to purchase a short cue I recommend Lucasi or Jacoby

Some good AZBers....

..I have used a few different ones, and lots of them are good. AZB members JW Petree and Kevin Varney make good playing J/B cues. I am partial to Petrees, and they really look nice. Omen J/B cues are very nice and the slightly longer jump portion jumps well, also. Gilberts are very good as are the X-breakers.

I would agree with Joe that JW or Varney would be excellent choices; however, I just recently bought an Omen "Howlitzer" from Thingie.....and it really is (the s__t) a fantastic cue :eek: :D ;)

So many cuemakers make great cues and jump breaks. JW's have leather wraps, points, etc, Varney's play real good, and the Omen cues hit great also...Ken what surprised me about that cue is how easily it jumps, even though it is longer when broken apart.

Like all other cues, the hit is just SO subjective. I don't think you would be disappointed with any of the well known cuemakers...that is why they are well known.
 
XBreaker... great break cue, and possibly better jump cue, before I had my X347 I used a Bunjee jumper and although it was a good jump cue the phenolic tip made it a bit harder to be accurate IMO. The XBreaker does have a hard tip but it holds chalk much much better than phenolic making control of the cue ball far easier. Another thing with the XBreaker is the ability to interchange the butt pieces so you have a choice of 2 different lengths for a jumper.
 
Pat Diveney Makes the Best break/jump cue i have ever used ! I have had many break cues and jump cues this is by far the best at both.You can get one for $300 and worth every penny !

I was at Pats shop one time a friend of his stopped by Pat told him to give his jump cue a try. He said oh i never have been able to jump forget about it ! So anyway he takes the jump cue sets up a full ball jump about 8-10 inches from the blocking ball. On his first try he cleared the whole ball with about 4 inches to spare ! :D you should have seen his face He looked like this > :eek:

I have heard great reviews on Varney's cues and he's next on my list to order a cue from.

Right now Chad "CAMCUES" is building me a 6 point ebony into bem w/ a ringtail lizard wrap j/b. I'm 110% sure it will be a lights out cue.

For a jump/break I will go for X breaker if your budget allows. Cause as compared with the rest of the jump/break, it is slightly more expensive but truly value for money.
 
I've got a Gilbert and a Gulyassy.
Both are great in different ways.

My Gulyassy is 17.5oz with a phenolic tip/ferrule combo -- my break is huge with that one! Although, of course, you sacrafice some cue ball control...

My Gilbert is 18.5oz (like every playing cue I've owned prior to my pair of Nittis) with a very hard ferrule and seperate phenolic tip (which I will soon be replacing with a hard WB tip to try and increase cue ball control). I actually like the way it plays more than anything -- somehow, it lacks the 'kick' of the Gulyassy during the break...but I do prefer it for jumps. Bit more control.


To be honest, I used to be all about jump/breaks...but lately, I have begun to prefer a moderately hard break versus an explosive break. I just pocket balls more consistently, and spread the balls more evenly, when I break a bit slower and and focus on my cue ball contact point and the spot I'm hitting on the 1-ball (when breaking 9-Ball -- I don't play too much 8-Ball, but I'm working on that break, and still think I prefer cue ball control rather than an all-out slamming of the cue ball into the head ball). Thus, I haven't been giving either of my jump/breaks much use when it comes to breaking...


In any case, I'd recommend either of these as they both get the job done pretty well...

I know it is kind of weird coming from me. I am actually very impressed with JW Petree's jump break cue.

His finish, fit, ring work, inlay works, are all first class, and his price is unbelivable.

I think it is a no brainer to decide between a house cue conversion and a custom top notch quality cue by Petree in the same price range.

I saw one J/B from JW Petree with a very well executed leather wrap, with very high sharp even points, beautiful execution, wet look top notch finish, and was sold for only $400!

I have never tried to break with his J/B, but I have seen them, and I have played with them. Workmanship wise, he is right up there. I also like how his playing cue plays.

Well, of course I believe the X Breaker is the best jump break cue on the market:) . But I also believe customers deserve choices, and I would highly recommend a JW Petree because I have been very impressed with his work.

I know it is very weird to hear that from me, it is getting late, may be I am going crazy!:D

I've not tried any of the other jump breakers like the X-breaker, Varney or Petree but I have to say that my Gilbert is the best jump break cue I've tried. I actually got it with two shafts so that I could have one as a player and one as with a phenolic/delrin, or whatever Andy uses, tip as a dedicated j/b shaft. My cue is 60" so the forearm and shaft are a bit longer making it a 43" or so jump section but it still jumps like a dream, especially with the jump tip. I have an ER BJX cue as well that plays, jumps and breaks jam up but I need to get a hard WB or White Diamond tip for it!
 
There are many great break cue choices out there...Omen, Petree, Gilbert...but the best jumper---hands down---is the jumping section of the Xbreaker.

I also consider it a "custom" cue, since they're coming out of Samsara's shop nowadays.

There is new J/P, selling like hotcakes around my area call a Sniper... They are selling for $100-150... It has the Phenolic tip... All of the Sniper JPs I have seen are plain black, nothing real fancy... Tony Crosby was selling them around here... Most of the players around here are using them now... I have broke with one a few times and its great... You dont have to put too much power into your break with this cue... And jumping a ball is real easy... If you are interested call me @ 727-267-0763... I know of a few places selling them...
