What's the Best Way to Select the Next US Mosconi Team?

The BEST way to select the Mosconi Cup team is to ask me and make me the coach. :)

I can GUARANTEE that we WON'T lose any worse than we already have.

I'll take minimal salary...just pay all my expenses for me and the team and provide us with the training facility.

Who am I? I am NOBODY! However, I am NOBODY who can LOSE with the BEST of them. :) :)

That's a helluva resume and cover letter. I hope Hearn sees THIS! How could he resist! ;)

Number One on the Job Specification of Mosconi Cup US Coach/Manager:

Must believe that my team can and will win. That is the object of a contest. It is not hoping to lose LESS BADLY.

It is not the winning that matters it is the taking part - Bullshit.

It is the Winners that get the prizes and the perks. Losers make their own arrangements

I've thought @ this, but it's a dangerous prospect for Matchroom to take on.

That is never going to happen because the Mosconi Cup has a Box Office. But let's face it - who goes to see anyone in the US team other than Earl.

But if the Captain was allowed to pick the squad then Matchroom would retain the right to veto anyone that they considered unsuitable for the task in hand.

Team?

There's no easy answer. Let's think tank.

Well, here's an idea I bet no one's considered...

How 'bout a five or six guys (or gals) with TEAM experience? Team members who get along, respect each other and their opponents, and work as a TEAM to improve their chances of winning.

The league haters may laugh, but state, regional and national championship AMATEUR teams know how to play as a team and win. American pros apparently are wanting in this regard...

After everything that was stated after the last Mosconi Cup it would be nice to have one person explain how they made their picks. Maybe do the top 4 ranked players and a captains pick. Don't make it a popularity contest. Seems the idea sometimes might be more for creating interest for the event, then on merit.

the person to pick the team should be the one that posts the most

I agree, and the person to pick the team should be the one that posts the most on the main AZ forum that year......what could be more fair? :D

With this combination we will win for sure! ....or.... at least we'll do better than last year for sure. ;) We'll put the team through "combat no pain no gain" training for 3 weeks.

Well, thank you for the compliment, C.J. :grin-square:

How about an honorary Captain and Co Captain. The co captain will be the top ranked player. The honorary captain can be someone like Joe Rogan or WWE Champion or something. Might sound silly but bring in a celebrity. It might be that added something pro pool needs. I don't even watch wrestling any longer but my son does. Who would do more for promoting pool Buddy Hall or John Cena?

How about a qualifying point system that's open so that everybody has the same opportunity to try for it? It's for a US team, so naturally they would be US events. Somebody does better in an event outside of the US? Doesn't count. Need to be able to win when it counts. There was one player that looked to be a lock this year that got hosed. I wonder if he'll get an apology.

I have three options:

1)
Choose some events and give points to players based on how they place in the tournaments.

2)
Choose a good captain and let him pick the players.

3)
Three day battle royale!

Given the current state of things, I think options 2 and 3 are the best.

You and Keith should pick the team, JAM.

Well, thank you for the compliment, C.J. :grin-square:

You and Keith should pick the team, JAM.....and make them play "Roll Out" too. ;)

I think the coach for Team USA has already been picked.

Mark Wilson has already been chosen, I think, and the

person starting all these threads about him knows this.

He is only doing this so when the announcement is made

by Matchroom everyone is on the same page.

Sort of like two years ago, prior to that choice being announced.

Hey, where are all the threads where Americans are touting
there choice for Team Eruo coach, I must have missed them.

I THINK MARK WOULD BE A FINE CHOICE
However I thought that prior to the campaign.

You'd probably be surprised at who Keith would choose. :p

He follows the pool scene around the country actually much better than I do. :embarrassed2:

I think I know who he wouldn't choose. ;)

How about picking the Captain. Than all the pros that are interested in playing. Contact the captain through email/letter with what they have accomplished in the last year. What representing their country would mean to them. Why they feel out of all the other American players, they should be picked.
