What's the general feeling of Shaftmaster lathes these days?

I know I've seen him set up at tournaments all over the place, and they seem to work well for him. For what I want to do with it, I think they might be the ticket.
I know Unique has some really great portable lathes, but was wondering if anyone has used any of Judes lathes in the last year or two, and what their feedback is?

I purchased one in 2004, and I found it to be very under powered. I also had a number of problems with the motor burning up. I also think they were over priced for what you get.

However, the machine would do tips, ferrules, shaft cleaning and wraps ok. I will also say that Jude Hammon did take care of any problems I had very quickly. He was always very helpful so, do not take what I said as a slam to him personally. I suspect that there were problems with the motor itself.

Just my opinion!!!!!!

Last year at VF I saw one come apart while he was working on someones shaft. The bearing / rollers at the end came off and gouged the shaft and ferrule. Needless to say that guy wasn't happy.

I can see how that would make someone a bit disgruntled.......
Or flat out volcanic!
I don't even know what you would say in that scenario of exploding parts!

But after talking to Jude and how adament he is about customer service and warranty work on his lathe, thought I'd get some input from the non biased sector.
Thanks guys!
