the most i have ever been aired for was $1000. the guy handed me 2 sticks when we were done. took me 4 months to sell them both and i ended up getting about $400. but, i took my loss as a valuable lesson....always post up the money.

I am at a big tourney, here in Raleigh, around 90-91. There is a Research Trialngle Exec that would normally play $5 dollar pool with me. The guy plays pretty well, also. I'll call him Bill (by the way, this just MIGHT be his real name). We decide to get off to the side of the action and play some $20 dollar sets. Well, this escalates. And he ain't likin' it.
As we get to $100, he tells me that I'm not a complete player and I need to play all games, not just nineball. "Just because you don't see me play other games, doesn't mean I can't. I just prefer not to, thank you." "Well, if you come to my house and play on a real table, you got action playing EVERY game." Well, the guy is probably a millionaire, or close. You should have seen his home. We had always paid after every session. Usually just a hundred or around that, so I kind of got excited about it. I had just graduated from college and was making probably $30 a year. "Let's hit it." We decide that he'd drive us there, and make it back for my match with another fella from Fayetteville around midnight. It's around 7:00.
Well, it's 8:00 the next morning, and he finally says he'll take me back to the poolroom. He's done. Now, I know I may have inflated the amount over the years, but it was somehere in the $3400 range.? Maybe $2400? I don't remember, but it was a lot. Especially for me at that time. I had beaten him at nineball, straight pool, one pocket, and I think he even threw in tiddly winks.
As I get out of the car, and ask about the check he would write as he said, he comes out with, "I thought we were just messing around." He then, pulls the door shut, and speeds off. The pisser of it is this. I missed action at midnight with a true "go-off."
About four or five years pass. He comes into the poolroom during a big tourney. A guy is booking the matches. Bill actually comes up and wants to chat like nothing ever happened. He then asked me to put down a bet for him, since the guy didn't know him. Un fu#$ing real. I couldn't get fu#$ off out of my mouth fast enough.

That's why I never had too many problems collecting. If they knew of me they also knew I could become a crazy man in a flash. Johnnyt

Well, this buddy of mine plays about my speed, certainly no world beater but we thought we'd gauge this guy in case he wanted to play Bruce some. Justin beats the guy out of $120 and the guy says, "you are way too good, but I wanna play that guy", and points to Bruce.
Besides being an underdog to any of the 4 of us that were there, he points to the only champion within 100 miles of there! Bruce lays it down pretty good, but is up on the guy about $300. He pays Bruce $80 and says hes going to the bathroom. Well, apparently he fell in because we never saw him again, lol.
All in all it was worth the trip to Gulfport. We made a little money and I rode back to the Beau Rivage with a good looking girl. Her eyes were crossed a little but that was her only flaw. Good times.
