I have heard the answer before but i forgot the answer since this has only happened to me like...3 times in 10 years...anyways
How long can a ball hang in the hole, before dropping, for it to be a legally pocketed ball??
The 5 second rule is what I have always played. If after 5 seconds the ball is replaced as close as possible to where it was and it is still the incoming shooter's turn.I have heard the answer before but i forgot the answer since this has only happened to me like...3 times in 10 years...anyways

I have heard once the player leaves the table, its over. If the ball falls while the new shooter is coming to the table, ball gets spotted back.
That's why when my opponents hangs a ball, I get my azz up right away!!
So 5 seconds.Heres the WPA ruling on it. Sounds like a bunch of people need to refresh themselves on the rule books.
8.3 Ball Pocketed
A ball is pocketed if it comes to rest in a pocket below the playing surface or enters the ball return system. A ball near the brink of a pocket partly supported by another ball is considered pocketed if removal of the supporting ball would cause the ball to fall into the pocket.
If a ball stops near the edge of a pocket, and remains apparently motionless for five seconds, it is not considered pocketed if it later falls into the pocket by itself. See 1.7 Balls Settling for other details. During that five second period, the referee should ensure that no other shot is taken. An object ball that rebounds from a pocket back onto the playing surface is not a pocketed ball. If the cue ball contacts an already pocketed ball, the cue ball will be considered pocketed whether it rebounds from the pocket or not. The referee will remove pocketed object balls from full or nearly full pockets, but it is the shooter’s responsibility to see that this duty is performed.

It really depends....
If I was shooting, and I wanted to make the ball and had good position, then you need to wait as long as I want.
If I was shooting, and I missed my position, then it's immediately your turn, whether it falls or not...
If you were shooting, but I can easily make the duck, then it's immediately my shot....
If you were shooting, but I can't make the duck, and you didn't get position on the next ball, then we need to wait a while until I am ready to shoot to see if it falls....
