Hi am curious how many people like one pocket, 9 ball,10 ball..etc My favorite game is one pocket, because it has all the essentials of pool . you need to be a good banker, shooter, mover. So whats your favorite game?

While I like all pool games my favorite is definitely straight pool. To me that has always been the default game. When my father first took me to a pool room as a kid in the early 60's (the old Cue Club in East Meadow) that's what he taught me. I thought that was the only game until I found out about 8-Ball a few years later. Unfortunately it's hard to find guys to play it with these days. I am in a straight pool league and that's the only time I get to play it.

My favorite game is without a doubt Einstein nine. This game is a form of rotation one pocket and is all about strategy, safeties and banking.

The down side of this game is I am about the only one that plays it:frown:

At the risk of sounding fickle, I have to say that my favorite game is the one I'm playing at the time. My playing group holds mini-tournaments (12-16 players). We rotate 8-, 9- and 10-ball throughout the year. I find myself favoring whatever game is "in tournament" at the time.

I wish I could get any of them interested in one-pocket or straight pool, but I haven't been able to.

I really like to play 'golf' on the 5 x 10.

Just no sure I can afford to really learn the game fully.

Gotta love a game where sometimes a 4 or 5 railer is the right shot from a cb and 'hold your man' standpoint.

But then when a slow rolled ball rolls off a ball width, or runs over a fly turd or the guy infront of you won't feed you the cb to protect the game and costs ya a couple of hundred as the double paying sell out..

Next favorite: 1pkt. Can't play worth a darn, but like it. Missing close, fits my vicinity aiming approach.:)

My best games are 9 ball and 14.1. 9 ball I like because I think i play it good but it can be somewhat boring after you have played it for like 50 years. I doubt I have learned anything new in many years.

I like 14.1 because I play it well but I don't really like competing in the game. Something about sitting in the chair as the guy runs out is just counter to what you think of as a completive sport.

Although probably my worst game, I like one pocket best. I seem to learn something all the time. Not that long ago I was playing a guy giving him weight, he was not all that good a player. But as we played he was doing some kicking that was really interesting. Not shots that you would have thought of at first look.

Turns out he was from Chicago and had been around a lot of good one pocket players. Although he himself was not that skilled I learned a few things from him from what he had seen and was doing and now were passed on to me.
What can be better then that, playing a game that no matter how long you play you never stop learning.

POOL

Yea, but that is what makes pool so great, there are so many games that can be played. Heck, you can make up new ones if you want. Not like say golf or bowling where the game is the game, you either like it or you don't.

I know, there are probably some variations to other games but not to the extent as pool. From 14.1 to banks to Cribbage, there is something there to interest almost anyone who enjoys cue sports. possibly one of the draw backs for the general public is they don't know how much fun can be had on a pool table. All they know is 8 ball like that is all there is to pool.

8 ball & 9 ball
I suppose 8 ball by default because that's what all the leagues and most tournaments are up here, although there are some small weekly 9 ball tournaments I partake in occasionally. I find it kind of amusing how bad I am at 9 ball, I think due to strategy because I rarely play it. I have only been playing a few years so I haven't tried many different games yet.

I must be the only one that likes one pocket. Lol. I guess I need to practice up on ny 9 ball. But hey cash you wanna play some? Hahaha

Currently my favorite game is 1P. I'm in the learning process. Other than 1P my all time favorite game is 1Ball (in the corner). It's an old Phila game I enjoyed in the 60's. I'm trying to encourage my senior buddies to learn/play the game....but right now 1P rules.

I love banks the most. Short rack, full rack dont matter. But here lately, I'm loving me some straight pool

First time I watched guys playing one-hole I thought it was the stupidest thing in the world. Looked like these old farts couldn't make a ball. Now, it's the only game I'm really interested in. I can't break, never could, ain't likely to get a good break all of a sudden at 62, so rotation games are out. 8-ball is fun, but that's almost all I've played my entire life being a bar banger. 14.1 at my speed would require giving me such a big handicap that it wouldn't even be fun. I dabble at high runs at home, but so far I've never gotten through two racks, so...

If there were guys nearby that played one-pocket I'd be in pig heaven, playing every day and paying my dues. I just love the type of strategy involved and I think I might be OK with a lot of play. I like the way one-pocket handicaps are made a lot better than 14.1 handicaps. There just isn't a game to be made for me when facing guys who can consistently run multiple racks in 14.1. One-hole handicaps are at least realistic.

I often play one-pocket against myself at home, moving the cube of chalk from one corner to the other to help me not be confused "who" I am on each turn. So far, we're both pretty much dead even.

Favorite game....

Playing the Ghost in 2 Ball....because I can win and run out like a pro.
Show the Ghost who's boss. :groucho:

1 cushion.

Or on a pool table, a game I made up called reverse 9ball.

Same rules as 9 ball except after the break, you shoot with the lowest ball on the table instead of the white. Ball you shoot with has to connect with the white first, before either being pocketed, or 'causing another ball to be pocketed.

CRIBBAGE!!!! I played that game once with a friend a few yrs ago:) he told me the rules and he said we will play a short race to 10! He gave me the first break and wouldn't ya know, he never shot;) that was the first and last time I played:) all of a sudden I kinda miss that game;)

i think im gonna start playing straight pool cause it seems like most like it. i am more of an action player so i guess i will play it for prctice since there isnt much action at 14.1
