What's your BEST "playing" cue - the one you take to the pool hall

I have seen a number of times in this forum where people refer to their "playing" cue vs. say....any number of cues they own.

My question is, at what point does a cue become too expensive or collectible to take to the pool hall? Is it a dollar value? I read that some players just bring the 300.00 cue to the hall, and talk about the cues they own...wich apparently don't see play.

I will be taking my Josswest to every place I go to play. I don't see the point in owning a nice cue if you're just going to keep it under the bed. Josswest isn't a 8,000.00 Black Boar or Southwest, but it's not a 300.00 McDermott either.

If you have sweet cues that supposedly "play" well, why not use them? What's the point of owning a nice playing cue if you just talk about it, but bring the ugly sister to the dance?

I'll take my Schon SL-7 to the dance. Fun to take an old friend.

I know a guy who shoots daily in pool halls with his old southwest and his gus. I shoot with my little mini-collectible ( :) ) Dadivas, which is worth a lot to me personally...what good does a pool cue do sitting in a closet? I agree with you Soulweb!

For the past seven plus years I always take my signed David Jacoby that was gifted to me from my good friend Ryan aka Hoppe Copy. It is an old friend now. I changed the weight, the wrap, the tips and the shaft taper. Very much like a 1949 Rambow, but, with a radial pin. Plays great. However, the best playing cue was a 1996 Searing, but, alas, it now resides in Germany. Shoulda never done that! :(

I'm a freak when it comes to cues taken to the Poolhall. I bring like 5-6 always and extra 10 shafts, with different tips and ferrules, and lenghts. I love using them all. Some have different pivot points so I like different tips and cues for different games. Sometimes I bring the 1 piece billiards cues along too- The wooden carved maple cue is nice from 1905, another with a wooden carved wrap from the 1920's too, both brunswick. The Patina on these 2 is sweet. I love to use them all and I keep them in Pristine condition. I have eyes in the back of my head too!! and I always pick someone and give them 5 -10 bucks to be another set of eyes- this is how I roll- well stocked. Mark Thanks in advance for anycomments. I am retired, and do cue stuff for a hobby. Currently I call my self a wood broker. I'm always learning where the best trees are ,when to cut them ,identify them etc, etc, etc, I cutt pieces off logs that will sell for 8-10 thsoand dollars each. I was in a pile of about 175 beautiful cut Venner logs,BEM. I burn BEM in the fire pit!! Mark

I don't think I own a cue I wouldn't play with.

But I have a "player" that I'm most comfortable with and have the most confidence in so thats the one the usually sees the most action. (fwiw it's in the 4k range)

I generally have 'date' nights where I will take out groups of the others just to appreciate them and show them some love. But if they are true 'collectables' they're just not going to see that much time out of the house, thats just a part of keeping them in collectable condition.

In my signature. My old JOSS.

Obviously not extraordinarily expensive, but collectible.

I would shoot with any cue I had. I don't believe in closet queens. If I had one worth thousands I would shoot with it.

Any and all my other cues see table time for amusement, pleasure, comparison, and just plain bangin balls around. But....none of them are worth a great amount either.

I play with all of my cues but my go to Cues are my Mike Bender and my Jim Buss and my Richard Black.

I usually take the others out a few times a year just to play with them because I enjoy them.

played

Hwy Soulweb, your Joss West is equal to a South West, I have had one of each.., my current play cue, $1900 and it gets action every day. I have had cues that cost more and a lot that cost less, but I take care of them all..., but they all get played with.

For a bang for buck cue, I'd take Muellers RAT any day. It's a local cue maker, and they are way undervalued IMHO ($330+). I shot with a Kikel for many years, and after switching to RAT I never looked back.

For weekly league or travel I use my Dale Perry. If the airline loses it or it gets beer spilled on it or knocked over I won't get too bent. If I'm going to the pool hall to compete in a tournament or match up I play with my Gina.
