Interesting

I wonder how many go to a LD shaft and then go back? Personally I like my original shafts on the Schon's I own. Maybe I am used to them or maybe they play better than the newer ones (mine are 25 plus years old).

Don't get me wrong I like the new LD shafts. I play league with a 314 Predator SP. interesting topic none the less.

I played with predator and ob both an my schon and various other cues. Went back to regular shafts mainly because all the ld shafts did was make me over spin alot of my shots. I know it's not the shafts fault but I am still working on my stroke alot. Also like the hit of plain maple alot better.

I shoot with a Schon CX-06 and a McDermott I-3. The I-3 comes with a Moori Soft tip. The tip diameter is 11.75mm. This combination of butt and shaft feels perfectly balanced to me. The small tip diameter gives me a sense of geometric precision where I strike the cue ball. The Moori tip has never mushroomed (which is surprising for a soft tip), never glazed over, or hardened with time. I've tried the OB-2 shaft and didn't notice much difference in performance but the ferrule was distracting to me. I've never tried the Predator and have avoided it because of the many bad reviews here on this forum (poor quality control, etc.). This may be unfair to Predator, but that's the way I feel. My buddy shoots with a OB-1 and swears by it. Shafts and tips are so subjective. You have to go by what feels good to you.

The Mezz or the OB classic are likely in the lead with the 314-2 trailing slightly.... The issue is how they work ALL the way around the ball..... The Mezz and the OB Classic work well on the top of the ball or on the bottom of it.... While the 314-2 is better than the original 314s it is still hot on the bottom and weak on the top of the cueball....

.....

This is interesting. I wonder what the science explanation is.

I am using the Jacoby Edge shaft.
I also have the OB classic (just got it). Need to play a litte more and see which I like better.
I also have the Mezz WD700.
That Mezz at 12.5mm is a little small for me and thus why I would like to get rid of that one.

As for the standard shaft I love the feel of hit but the shaft deflects so much that it is just too hard for me right now to go back to it.
I will keep it but I am not ready to adjust to that amount of deflection.
I have a hard enough time figuring out the tangent line

I have used a 314 shaft on my Schon LTD for around 8 years. I am very happy with the shaft's performance. All of the responses about the OB Classic make me curious but I dont really have a way of testing the shaft without buying it.

I have an old Schon and I use a Z2, I haven't seen anyone else say they use the Z2, people don't like it?

I tried the Z2 shaft but I am so used to longer ferrules. The shorter ferrule of the Z2 just looks weird when I am sighting down the shaft. I cant get past that for some reason. Not sure if that is the opinion of other people who dont like it. I probably would have bought a Z2 if the ferrule was the same length as the 314's.

Me!!! I go in spells...for months I'll like playing with the Tiger X-Ultra on my Schons...then I'll get the itch to start playing the ivory ferruled Schon shaft...then I'll get a different cue out and play with that for awhile...

No wonder my game suffers! :o

The OB Classic shaft is 12.75mm tip. The OB Classic PRO is 11.75mm tip. Both play great on a Schon butt ! F.Y.I.
