What's your worst beat-up, beat-down?

Back around 1969, I beat a road player up in Wisconsin 22 of 24 games of 8-ball. About ten years later, my teammate Timmy Stellpflug beat me 22 of 24 games of 9-ball. I shot only four times in that set!

Lee Holt beat me so badly once that I am still not sure he had an opponent.

I wanted to keep playing, but after 3 sets and 0 shots, my money said  :outtahere:

I played a guy at Banana's in San Antonio about 12 years ago. We played about 20 racks for $20.00 a rack.

After every rack he asked me to play for $100.00 and I declined.

I won every game but the last one. I probably should have accepted the $100.00 wager.

Worst

My worst was 50 years ago and ended up one of the best things that ever happened to me.

I was almost busted with a $20 bill in my pocket. I had a pregnant wife at home and was trying to play pool for a living.

I started playing $10 a game snooker with this 17 year old kid at Wonderbowl in Anaheim and got him stuck 18 games. I needed the $$ so bad I wanted him to quit. He raised it to $20 instead and I started dogging it and lost 10 in a row.

It bothered me so bad I went out and got a job the next week. The kid was Richie Florence, who ended up a champion and one of the best $$ players in the country.

We played again 30 years later and I told him he did not know it but he was the best friend I ever had - he made me go to work.

Worst was when Tony Robles ran 200 and out off my opening break in a straight pool race to 200. Yup, he didn't miss a ball in that game, and, come t think of it, niether did I.

In three cushion, Sang Lee once beat me 80-11. At one point, he went 9-8-9 in three consecutive innings.

Mika Immonen beat me 5 straight races to 9 in 9-ball with a combined score of 45-2. He ran three 6 packs during the five sets. A week later, he won the World Championships.

Two weeks ago in league I got beat by SL 6 in eight ball 5-0. Five games total innings for all five games....nine. It was the best I've ever seen this guy shoot...near flawless. The few times I got to the table I didn't have anything to get started. In the end, he was so excited...I thought he was going to pass out. I was actually happy for the guy...I just sat there and watched the show.

8:8.....not my break but I pick up the chance run 3 to 9 but after a fine cut.......white ball wash middle pocket......that's my worst...

barbox 10ball - lost 8-1 with alternating breaks!! :sorry:

guess I shouldn't have beat his dad in the round before :embarrassed2:

Worst beating was Apa 9-ball this past summer. My opponent was an sl2, and almost every time she missed I had to kick. Beat me pretty good.

Best, Apa 8-ball, again over the summer. I beat an sl7 3-0 in 8 innings. I play this guy a lot on the weekends and I know how good he is. That night he played as badly as I've ever seen. And I played about as well as I've ever played. Good timing. :p

I have only ever felt "comatose" in pool twice- both times were playing one pocket, completely overmatched by really, really good 1p players who wanted to show off.

The first time was over 15 years ago, maybe more. I just remember sitting in my chair wondering why I was in a poolroom and why I was holding a pool cue... My own cue didn't feel like my trusted friend anymore- it was an awkward stranger speaking a foreign language. By the end, it was like I was watching myself from across the room, rather than actually being there- it was that bad.

The second time was maybe 8 years ago. One pocket again. I stayed in my own body this time, but I didn't want to walk up to the table anymore- everything I did just hurt myself even worse. My limbs felt heavy and slow, my cue was heavy- it took sheer freaking willpower just to walk up and try again. And again... And that was for funsies!

It's just amazing how a real beat- down can completely affect your brain and your coordination like that.

Best match of my life was in Vegas 2010 TAP nationals
Singles board first round SL5 - I won lag - broke and ran the first two racks (never done that before), broke dry in the 3rd he missed I ran out, I broke the 4th ran a few, played safe and he missed, I ran out. No misses, one defence and 2 break and runs. Best match ever. Ended up 5th-8th in that tourament, my only loss was to the eventual winner. Great experience for my 2nd National event ever.

My worst beat-down was at last year's SBE Open/Pro 10-ball, when I was suffering a pretty serious sinus infection. I took a 10-2 drubbing by Ralf Souquet, and then a 10-0 sweep by Joey Testa. I just couldn't get out even when the rack was handed to me. Although pretty mad at myself for days after (for having my absolute worst showing ever at this event), I gradually accepted the fact I did the best I could during a time when my mental acuity was at its worst.

It's hard to remember "a best beat-up" because although one can get caught up "feeling good," I don't like to remember those things. (I just march on, because the one day you think you're superman, someone with kryptonite will come along and totally debilitate you.) The most recently memorable, though, was when I was visiting my folks in Denver, CO during Christmas 2009, and I ventured into a well-known regional league stronghold, Greenfields, on New Year's Eve. I had intended only to grab a pint or two of Guinness to ring-in the New Year, but as I walked in, standing room only, they were announcing last call entry for their year-end Open 9-ball event. I didn't have my cues with me (I don't like to travel with them -- too much of a PITA), so I figured, "what the hey?" I pulled a cue off the wall, and entered my $20. I was the last/64th player to enter. It was short races to 5. However, in the spirit of having fun and not giving a damn, I was handing out 3-packs and 5 - 0 sweeps on those barboxes. (I'm still amazed at how my opponents would try to play safe, thinking if they pin the cue ball against the cushion with [most oftentimes] an unobstructed view at the object ball on these barboxes, that it's somehow a "safety.") It was double-elimination, but I blistered through and pocketed 1st place. What made it memorable, were the mumblings I overheard that an out-of-town Guinness-drinking New Yawka came in and stormed their stomping ground! :D

Worst beat-down, was a 7-1 loss to Dave Bollman in my first tourney ever in 1991. I won the first game and from then on all I remember was kicking 2 rails out of his safes every time I was at the table. I think I was back to the table 4 times in the remainder of that set. My head was spinning like in the exorcist.

Played and lost to Max Eberle hill-hill during a weekly tourney at the Shark Club in Alexandria Va. First time I played on Diamond tables must have been around 1993. The worst part of that match was we both had to fade the guy who was cleaning the fish tanks in the wall.

I guess the the best win was a few years ago during our TAP playoffs. I was always held out for the "race to one" game if the team went over the time limit because of my ability to handle the pressure. Played and beat another seven for the team to move on and 2 thousand dollars. The next match was even better, the team got down 2 to 0 I get put up, and I start getting thumped by their seven, it is 3 to 0 in his favor. when I to take a timeout for a bathroom break. I wash my face, and I remember thinking, I am not going to go out like this. I come back out and win the next 5 in a row.

It was sort of Jackie Gleason-ish

This was some time ago. I was beat 7-0 in a tournament by Lorrie DeLeon at Hard Times, with me not even getting a shot. I couldn't wait to get out of there.

The very next tournament just a few months later, almost 200 players and who do I draw first match? That's right, Lorrie DeLeon. We went hill-hill and I won. So I said to him "great match. I was worried after what happened last time". He looked at me puzzled and said "we've played before?". LOL

Worst as far as score goes was last year at the Indiana state ACS tournament I got beat 7-0 for the first time in my life. Sad thing was, I shot just about every game. Maybe a dry break in there but was completely helpless for some reason. Snapped out of it in time to knock him out later on and ended up splitting in the finals. Best beat down is hard to say. There's just so few of them due to my wonderful break.:embarrassed2:

my worst was my 1st match last summer in my master league. got beat 7-0

my best was last year in my money league playoffs. i beat a s/l 8 who had been undefeated all session 4-0 for 1500.00.
