When ameteur competitors consistantly cash in professional events

When ameteur competitors consistantly cash in professional events, shouldnt that be the determining factor that they are no longer ameteur rather than if they have a separate income?

I think "cash" is tough. Take the us open for example. Anyone can put their $ up and play. So a guy/gal could get a bye, play a dead money player or two and cash. Without something like q school in golf/snooker its pretty tough to qualify someone as a pro. Leaves a lot of ambiguousness.

Ok i see your point what about ameteurs that finish in the top 32 of any wpa event? Would that be a representation of professional level skill?

May be closing in on something with top 32.

But, in field of how many and of what caliber.

If you have to qualify kind of like Darrens tour. Then place in the top 15-20% of the main events field?

Edit- that percentage might be a bit to low.

How do you define "professional event"? And what do you mean by cashing in those events? Do you mean winning the thing or just placing high enough to get entry fee back? Lets talk about my numbers: during the last 2 months I placed 65th at Pinneberg Open with 256 players cashing 60eur, 5th at Kielce Open cashing 200eur and 3rd at Bratislava Open cashing 400eur (both "Best of the East" series) and 17th at Klagenfurt Open Eurotour series with 170 players cashing 500eur. Can I live off those winnings? No way! I am winning just enough to cover the cost of playing in those tournaments getting just a slight profit. Am I pro? No way, there are surely 100 better players in Europe than me and another 150 players at the same level as me. What would be the point of calling such a player pro? To bar him/her from playing certain tournaments?:confused:

Why don't you just say his name -- should Brian Parks still be considered an amateur player?

No, not for any entries in "amateur only" events, IMHO.

He has won national amateur championships multiple times, and not just that but multiple times in a row. He has an 733 Fargo also (to please the poster LOL) which would put him in striking distance of players like Archer and Klatt.

SBE denies entry into their open events if you finish top 24 in any major event like US Open, Derby, Turning Stone, etc...

The BCA Regional events are also "amateur" only and this is their rule for that:
"Individual Rating Limits
This tournament is for amateurs only. No male rated higher than 720 and no female rated higher than 660 may register for any division."

I think 720 may be a bit strong for a real amateur event. I think the cut off should be 700.

No, I think that would just mean that the Pro scene is getting weaker, and not as many Pro caliber players showing up.

Bca also allowed players with unestablished ratings, iirc.

Although its better than nothing its still open to manipulation.

He is awesome. Who thinks he is on the same level as Chip Compton for example? I think he is just as strong as a lot of so called Pro level players out there.

Henny just beat him 10 games ahead...in 12 games.

Can he have his dam amateur card back, dix?

Do you have a more specific question or are you more just kinda fishing?
Are you talking about a specific amateur association or league?

I was wondering that too. Did Brian wrong you in some way?
He never struck me as a guy trying to rob the us amateur Just someone who loves to compete.

Are you questioning the apa, bca, or sbe?

Not that many tournaments that ban pros ( however they define it)

If I were a gambling man I’d guess it’s in reference to the APA US Amateur Championship.

However, the term “rob” was used and that event doesn’t have a cash prize to my knowledge.
