When will the Southwest cue market come crashing down?

Demand will determine price and with the low numbers avail and long wait for new ones i don't see price dropping anytime soon. I agree as far as playability, to me they're just too stiff. Very well made but not worth what current asking prices are.

For those who question how they play:

Do you think it was a fluke that Dennis chose to play a 100k match with a sw?

I swear Alex also used a sw the last time he played Scott for big money.

Both guys switched to their sponsors mid-match, but I don't think it was by choice.

Everyone know how the Taiwanese feel about the cues.

Dennis was playing the match with a Tiger.

Knocking must provide a perverse pleasure

it need not be direct,if it is in the form of a question a fella
with really stupid ideas can always reply

I wuz just askin

south west makes the best cues ever made
we were all concerned when Jerry died but his wife Laurie who had been running the show
continued
to make the same quality cues
with the same high standards of customer loyalty

perhaps i should put my money where my mouth is

i will buy any new cue with 6 points for $500 more than you paid her new

i am aware that some pay more

who else can we say this about

by far the best investment and best playing cue ever made

it really irks me when people knock a little widows business

what fun can that be

being the best is like a monkey climbing a tall pole

He started out playing the match with Scott with his SW. He switched to his Tiger part way through the first day. Did he switch due to sponsor commitments, or did he not like the way he was playing with the SW? That would be my question.

I believe it was stated a few times that Dennis was playing with his SW in Virginia leading up to the match with Scott as well.

Deano, got a question: i know you're a BobOwens fan,as am i, so i was wondering between a SW and a BO which do you prefer? I recently hit some with a BO that i think you had some input on. It's a 'bushka style w/blue-green points and rings in the butt. Awesome cue but nothing like a SW as far as hit. If SW are best ever, where do Bob's cues fit in? Curious as to your take here.

Sw

I personally don't get it. I don't see the prices that they are commanding as sustainable. They play well no doubt and they are made well but so are 1000's of other cues. Beyond that there really is nothing special about them IMO. (and yes I've owned several over the years and yes I could afford to buy at todays prices if I chose too) What am I missing?

Their integrity , they make a quality product and stand by their word. Others ( Cuemakers ) have had long wait periods but fold like a cheap card table when someone waves an extra 2k under their nose.
SW has a legitimate wait list and makes no exceptions, for those who do not want to wait and have the $ they can buy one on the secondary market. The seller is in the drivers seat. I think you already know this.

Really Franko? Because I remember a couple members on hers who waited 10 - 12 years
For a cue and when their number came up and whated ebony they were told no.
Then 6 months or so later miraculously a friend of the south west shop gets 2 ebony cues
Brand new.

I don't no about u but if I wait 12 years then didn't get what I want I wouldn't be happy, especially when one of Laurie friends comes up with 2.

Dean (just playing along)
I'll give $1000 more for a new Szamboti or Searing than they charge.
Now don't everyone fill my pm box all at once...lol
But you are correct about Sw. Always been a great cue.

But at some point she was going to start using Ebony again. So unfortunately someone is not gonna be happy before that. It happened to one of my freinds too. But he gets two a year so I'm sure he will get Ebony next time.

That's where she lost me. I ordered a cue and asked for ebony points into Birdseye with 3 veneers and Birdseye handle the day I ordered the cue. Eleven years later I was told no. I ordered before the big push for ebony Southwest cues. I didn't just jump on the band wagon. I had even had a Franklin Ebony nose piece cue at the time. I do regret selling it as well as my old BEM nose and cccobolo player.

So what happened after you were told no? End of the line?

Given this insane demand why have they not expand a bit o fulfil more orders? Or is that part of the mystique?

This is not 100% accurate, there has been some exceptions.

I suppose when the down payments go higher and the waiting list gets longer, that people will realize that they have paid thousands of dollars on a cue that they will never see before they die.

I don't get it either, but I will never begrudge anyone spending their money on anything in life that makes them happy. I don't understand THOUSANDS of dollars for a playing cue that more than likely isn't going to improve your overall game. But then, I also do not understand how a small piece of cardboard with a baseball players image on it with his statistics on the back side can fetch FAR more money than a SW cue. What about thousands upon thousands of dollars for a glass lamp just because it has the Tiffany's trademark on the bottom of the base?

Crazy isn't it? And....there are literally hundreds of more examples that could be given here, but to what end? Human beings, with Americans being some of the worst, just seem to go full-on batshit crazy when they get the urge to own something that has a reputation of being rare/collectable.

Please, go easy on me. It's just my personal take on it.

If Southwests were stocks, they would be a blue chip DOW component.

Yes, there are a lot of basic Southwests and they have been a sound investment for many years. But the fancy ones are very rare and they have gone into the stratosphere. No matter what happens to the SW market, I predict the fancy ones will never crash.

Icons don't come crashing down. And, I don't use the word "icon" loosely.

I imagine all the 'jam-up' makers and Chinese production cloners who do little more than knock-off Southwest would take the worst of it if the market ever did crash.

There are many, many people that would call Pontiac an automotive icon, how are they doing?????

Basically, it's supply and demand. They have a waiting list about 12 years long, last I checked. This means I will be collecting social security before I would get one if I ordered today.....
So, until the wait list goes to 1 year or less, I don't see their prices going down.
