Thanks for the compliments.
Trav, I really like the Hagan, it's my player. I lusted after this particular one for the longest time fore shelling out the dough for it. The great thing is the shafts are interchangeable with the Mali, so if I ever wanted a nicer shaft to play with in a bar or something, I could just bring it to use with the plain Mali cue.
The leather case and cue were scored on Goodwill. I replaced the interior and cleaned the case. The Mali was pristine aside from some scratches in the ferrule and one ding in the butt.
Chopdoc, these are probably the best budget cues I've tried and they seem to hold up well over time. I really like the the insert on the shaft has a slight recess almost a countersink type feature that makes it ever so slightly easier to locate the pin. Thinking of getting a break shaft for it to complete the set. The only issue I have with it, is that the butt is like 1.33 or something... it's a friggin' tree trunk of a cue.
Sorry to ramble on, but this is my setup I usually bring for playing sessions.
Hagan, and standard shaft at 12.75mm (nine-ball, eight-ball, 1p, etc)
OB1 shaft at 12.3mm (for snooker)
Mali with 13.5mm shaft (could be a breaker/backup/loaner player)
Also, as an aside (Eric can correct me if he reads this) I think I remember that Eric Crisp wrote something about liking Mali cues and basing the taper of his early shafts on them. I phrased this thread because When I played with the Mali the first time, it really did remind me of the Sugartree I'd played with a long time ago.
