Where are they now? The WPBA Players

We had a couple of threads not too long ago touching on this subject. The speculation centered around whether or not there was a gag order placed on the members. Since most of them seem to have disappeared, I have to wonder if there was any substance to the speculation.

I never saw this until just now.

With all the ladies invited to join, will there be a limit to the amount of players that the scedule can handle? Seems like the numbers may jump towards the DCC-ish type entries. How can a double eliminatation event handle a couple hundred (potential) more players?

Personally, I would like "special invitations" for the top 10 Women in the world to be able to play in the U.S. Open. Opening it up to any woman who wants to compete may mean that the tournament may end up being a first come, first served type where, if the field fills up, some quality men may lose their spots to some APA players.

But it's not my tournament, it's Barry's. And, he's always done a first class job. I guess we shall see....

Steve,

They was no "Gag Order" given.

It was discussed at the board meeting that it isn't wise for a board member to reply or get involved into forums with sensitive or ill topics to WPBA. The reason being is that if there is an information/ correction to be put out, it should be made as a press release or some sort of official memo where all board member's are aware and agreed on.

Some times when a board member replies, although he or she maybe expressing a personal feelings or thoughts, it is easily perceived as the "Official Voice of tour".

Since then Sarah Rousey has replied few, but she usually isn't very active on the forum. She usually keeps her life/competition/travel updated to everyone by her blog: http://sarahrousey.blogspot.com/

I have not heard she got fined ore reprimanded for posting here.

This so called "gag order" is no means of recent change. They had this policy in their by-law for a long time. It was just reminded.

Things are hard for everyone right now. There is not a single person, small or big business who didn't get hit hard by the crash of economy.

WPBA is going through some extreme harsh times and I wish them well and good luck to get through this obstacle.

I am going to give them some space and just wait for some good news. We should see more updates on www.wpba.com or through the main page press release.

Who is the president of the wpba at this time? John R? Jeanette Lee? Nobody? Johnnyt

So we get speculation and rumours rather than any official information from the WPBA. Their web site has been telling us there is a forthcoming anouncement from the president for quite some time....but no anouncement. I think the loyal fans deserve better than a lot of silence.
I think we all want to see the WPBA do well. Many of us have supported them for years. I think we deserve a little more than the silence we have been receiving.

I think there is almost no one left to say anything.

Who know's what the girls are doing? Jasmine is winning 4 gold metals and is about to embarass alot of men real soon, man she can play. I hope she plays in lots of mens events.

In the history of pool on the Planet Earth, Jasmine is the only one I know off who is accompanied by a coach for every event like in Track& Field, basket ball etc. It is never heard of in pool. That will make Pool look like a real olympic sport! She is next 'Allison Fisher' for another 10-15 years.

It's not that we are disappearing from the forum. I'm still pretty darn active. There is just nothing to report about the WPBA. We know as much as you know. All of us are just keeping hope alive that something happens. In the meantime, try to play in as many other tournaments as possible.

And Johnnyt, I think a lot of the girls already had day jobs pre-WPBA 2010. I know a long list of girls that work 40+ hour a week jobs and compete at a high level.

The good thing is that pool is very much alive on a different scale. There are plenty of tournaments in just about every area of the United States and the rest of the world for everyone to play.

So, here's hoping for a better tomorrow!

Sarah

PS...obviously no gag order since I survived.

So here is the ironic thing. As far as I am aware...there was no official gag order given to the membership....but it was requested at a Board meeting that no one post anything anymore without permission. SO...and here comes the ironic part....I could have come on and cleared that whole thread up...but I wasn't allowed to.

And a small correction...there is nothing in the bylaws preventing WPBA players from speaking (or writing) publicly. There are only rules in the handbook about Code of Conduct...where a player should not be publicly speaking poorly of the tour policy, sponsors, etc....that any of their complaints should be given to the Board.

However...since I am no longer on the Board...I feel pretty free to speak my mind. IMO...and again...that is IN MY OPINION....the no-posting decision was handed down for 2 reasons...1) to keep me quiet...which didn't make a whole lot of sense to me because 98% of the time I wasn't posting opinion...I was trying to correct erroneous facts posted about the WPBA by other people. I would not engage in the "what is wrong with the WPBA" and the "why won't the WPBA tell us anything" arguments...I would simply make corrections. Yes...I would sometimes get a little frustrated at the perpetuating myths that kept getting repeated...but again, I wasn't posting opinion....so why would the Board object to me "speaking on behalf of them" if all I was doing was correcting facts? I think that...on the rare occasions I did get involved in a fun discussion - something not WPBA related....that everyone would understand that I was not posting on behalf of the WPBA. The second reason I will keep to myself...since it is only my opinion :D

Best Regards,

Melissa "no longer a WPBA Board member" Herndon

Anna Kostanian is now a dealer at one of the Indian casinos just outside of Albuquerque. She's making a decent living now. She'll play in an occasional local tournament but that's about it....she sure had a lot of potential.

Not that it really matters but I don't think ANY of the top 10 have a 40 hr a week job. Johnnyt

Think about how many of the top 10 are not from the United States. Some of them get help from their countries to pay expenses and compete. Others that do live in the United States may not be employed by a big business, but they are still working probably more than 40 hours a week on whatever they are working on...think Jeanette and Allison. So technically, they are probably working way harder then those of us that are working "real jobs".

Melissa, I didn't want to come out and say, well there was a gag order but only for one person. Glad you cleared it up a little and glad you are back to posting!

That's not quite true. It wasn't just for me...but my postings seemed to have prompted it.
