Here's a little background on me. I'm 53, I've played pool off & on my entire life. In my 20's, I played a lot. I've always just been an average player. Nothing great, I've always just enjoyed the game. I've also never played in leagues or tournaments. I guess I was what you guys call a "banger?"
A few years back, we moved to Las Vegas, one of my neighbors has a pool table. We'd hang out, drink, shoot a few games. I caught the bug- HARD. These guys are pretty good! There's like 4 or 5 people that hang out and play.
First, I bought my own cue! (Whoa, i'm committing here!) The sense and desire of competing and getting better became a priority. Then I got my own table! Yay! Then I started seriously practicing.
The guys I play with, just play. They never practice, do drills, work on fundamentals, etc. They just play pool. I've been doing all the previously mentioned things and the rewards are 10 fold. I'm easily the best player on the block now.
I was encouraged to join a leauge last year and that's been a lot of fun, I get to play and meet other people that share the same interest!
This is a very abreviated post, basically, what I'm saying is that i've surpassed my initial goal of being the best player in the neighborhood. They all make fun of me and tease me because I'm obsessed with pool. Whatever. I think it's because they always LOSE to me now!
So, now I wanna try tournaments. I know I'll get my ass handed to me. I watch these guys and I just soak it all in. I've just heard that if you're the best player in the room, you're in the wrong room!
So, to sum it up, in 5 years, I wanna be playing in tournaments!
I just really love the game! To me it's physics meets geometry…
I know at my age, I just need a hobby and passion that's not going to kill me like my previous obsession- Downhill Mountain Biking. Yikes! That's dangerous!
I really enjoy this site, I've learned so much…
