Where to play in LA

When I'm in town I go to Santa Monica Billiards or Plush Pocket in the Valley.

Except for the champions, everyone is scared to death to play anyone they don't know or they want so much weight you have no chance. I just spent most of the day at S.M.Billards and no one would play me. I play close to Danny's speed. He beat me once, the second time I won, the third time I was up a game he quit me. He wasn't stealing so he quit.

Doesn't anyone just was good even action?

Rant over.......

LA is the worst pool action for a city its size in the world. cant get shit bet here, they have ZERO gamble. Rooms are nice, guys on the rail are cool but just no action, its pathetic they have $$$, LA aint cheap to living, but they dont bet. the card rooms get action is all i can figure, i used to get good action here years ago, not sure what happened. I cant get more than $300/rack bet in SM and nobody on the rail will side bet. Its a miracle i even got that game, and when i beat it-the spot HAS TO CHANGE or there is no more action, they wont flip a coin for $20 here, F'em all i got better things to do.

Me Im nobody. I am a guy who loves the game. I also like my home room and enjoy the people there no matter what persuasion they are. Even the guys who I have beefs with I respect. But I like most of all the terrible players who try hard every day to improve their game.

Im not going to talk about myself. I don't need to. You can google me if you like. Keone Young. Or ask my friend Danny Diliberto. You saw my post to John Schmidts friend. I too donate. But I don't need to blah blah about myself. I don't need to feel I am better than the next guy.

I understand. Sometimes we don't mean to say or write about ourselves and the things we say. Expanding truths to get our point across. Ive done it. So thank you for explaining what you should have said instead of what you did..

Most of all I want to thank you Lou. Because over these past few days you have inspired me. Yes at this later stage in life I have become lazy and lethargic in my playing habits. I lost that passion I once had. But now you and the Pilot have really inspired me to play better and get back to where I once was. I truly thank you. Like my little boy who inspires me everyday to become a better person you have inspired me as well. As I try to rise above pomposity and verbosity and untruths I will remind myself of those faults.

So to you and Pilot guy I apologize. I don't want you to feel unwelcome to our wonderful room. Please come and feel free to express yourselves and be yourselves.. Pilot guy I know you play much better than me but I will play you a couple of sets.
I await your presence.

Great.

Its card rooms, Indian casinos, online betting, etc..
People have too many other distractions nowadays, they dont want to spend all that time in a pool room trying to master a game that takes years and years to get good enough to gamble at. They want instant gratification, lol.

Same thing happened to me in NY sort of. I broke into the gambling business in after hours joints, back rooms, churchs, synagogues. Hell we ran 7 nights a week in different locations for the whole 6 years i was at it, i was like a zombie after a while, plus with working a job in the daytime, it was unreal. I had uncashed paychecks in my bureau that were 3 months old, i was making so much money i forgot all about them, lol.

Anyway, with AC in full swing they started killing us and all the players started going there instead, plus people started getting burned out and whatnot. New generation coming up and they didnt want to go into the old places anymore, they figure why blow a G or so and get nothing where as in AC they can go a nice restaurant and see a show and not have to contend with a raid or getting robbed or whatever reason, the clientele dropped off, so i went to Vegas.

Same thing in pool i would assume, same but different.

First - good to see you posting so much.

Second - give Anna Paquin my phone #. I can see why you haven't retired yet.

Third - I have a friend from St Louis living out there that has gotten a lot of action in the Santa Monica pool room. I hear they do have a few champions in that room. Not so much action at Hard Times in LA. He did say people look at him crazy at times when he wants to play even a cheap set for $50. He said that if he loses people have the attitude of see, that is why you are stupid to gamble. Believe it or not, the people with the most gamble in LA from his accounts are the Filipinos (Santos, Parica).

Lou why do you bring me into this one and start name calling. I know Eric and he has always been very kind and respectable to me. Why he says the things he does I don't know. But I don't have a bad word to say to him as I believe underneath all that he is a good person. Ill speak to him face to face about any problems I have with him.
Lou youre a bully.

Really?

After all the haranguing you've done when it was Jim that said everyone was scared and not me?

Really?

Hey Watchez. I might see Anna soon Ill tell her. Im good friends with her husband who plays Bill on the show. The last time I was on the show though there was a bunch of beauty queens and they were walking around half naked. I couldn't speak for days after that.

Yep the Filipinos are great. They all got action in our room.

Take care buddy.

I used to be a big gun at HOB in Santa Monica when I could make two balls in a row. Now I'm a guppy in that fish pond. :frown:

I really wish I could figure out how to play on those triple tough tables. I played Danny Shades some months back (only 30 a game) and I felt helpless. I've played Juan some Banks maybe a half dozen times over the last twenty years and he's tough action and a total gentleman to play. We usually kicked it off for 40 or 50 a game.

I want to get back into playing but I am intimidated by those tables for some reason. Maybe I just need to practice on them a little. By the way Lou, it's too bad we missed connections last time you were in L.A. If you had called me on my home phone I would have played you. I'm one of those guys who doesn't turn on his cell phone when he's at home. Why?

One other thing that kind of bugs me about HOB. The time is a small fortune to play there. Last time I was there with Dennis, his time was over $80 for a few hours of play. I will say this publicly now. If I play anyone in there we will be betting a minimum of 100 a game and we will split the time when It's over. Kapeche?

I'll see you all when I get back from the Philippines (if I ever come back!). I'm leaving Sunday and am due back the first of Sept.

P.S. Keone you're barred! I love you buddy.

Jay, over the course of all my visits, I've heard a lot of *****ing and moaning from the regulars at HOF about the cost of table time. I've never had the chance for a decent session there, so I guess I just haven't had to feel the pain of a larger bill there because: no one has played me there yet.

We missed connections earlier this year because I must have mis-copied your home number (I was driving when we spoke) and figured -- no big deal, I'll just call Jay on his cell, which you had been answering for the several days leading up to that.

No biggie. That day I just drove up to HOF, got no action (again), and played 3C with one of the regulars. I am getting to know the billiard players at HOF better than the pool players. After 20+ visits (my Mom lives in SC) it's so bad that nowadays when someone asks me where I'm going, I just tell them I'm going to SM to play 3C.

Lou Figueroa
note to yobauga:
didn't say the regulars are scared
(they just won't play)

HOB is tough action for anyone who aint used to the equipment in there, its about a 2 maybe a 3 ball advantage for guys that are used to it. I am now, it took a long time for me to get used to it. And I still have to be playing there regularly to play well. The humidity changes in there more than any room I ever played in, even in florida I never seen anything like that room. Its a trap. I was in action there last week a few days then the game dried up,

Dennis Orcollo and Carlo Biado in action in SM.

Hey Jay youre always big guns to me. We go a long way back when we used to play $2 9 ball at the Billiard Den in the 60's.
Sorry I missed you at the World Series of Poker. I spoke to Dennis O and he told me you were in the Main Event. I didnt do too bad. I chopped the final table of PLO 6 max at Ceasers for the deepstack event. And won a satellite for $1K. Didnt do to good at the Rio though.

Juan Rios was teaching me banks playing me cheap. He hasnt been coming in lately so I miss the bank games. If your this way Ill play you some cheap $20 full rack banks and pay your time.

That's Orcullo playing Magdi and I think Rich is playing Biado. (I didn't mention that Kiamco is playing Hatch on the third table back because 10 ball really shouldn't be played in SM.)
