Where Will Next Years BCA be Held? Riviera Going Bankrupt!

Boo Hoo Hoo. Vegas is going under. Who cares ? The gaming business has thumbed its nose at the everyday player for years and now what ? They need the everyday player! Good riddance. Oh, and for the Riv? The most mismanaged, poor staffed goofball casino I've ever been to ? Let it burn MF. Let it burn. Wienies for all.

They don't need the everyday player. Sorry you are misinformed.

The Encore just received the 5 Diamond/5 Star award in their first year of operation. There are only about 30 hotels in the USA that have this honor and most don't receive it in their first year. It costs A LOT of money to have the ammentities and service that this award demands.

Do you have any idea how much The Encore has to profit each day to break even? (hint: it doesn't come from the everyday player).

I do agree with you about the Riv. It is the worst hotel that I have ever been to.

Considering that a high roller can ruin a casino's quarter, I'd say that the average joe tossing a K a day is pretty important. Otherwise, you are arguing that a vegas casino should eliminate slot machines and the comp system that goes with them. Which isn't going to happen. BTW, your comparison using the Encore isn't really on point. The Encore is luxury hotel. Unless you've got $300/night to piss away on the room, you won't be staying there. And the average joe isn't going to pay for its overhead either. But they do just fine at the Gold Coast, et. al.

My point is that hotels in Vega$ can make it if they adjust their thinking. They can pay their bills - and pay bigger bills - if they don't cater to the average joe - which is what you want them to do.

With no real Knowledge of the Casino Business, IMHO I think you are wrong about Joe Working Class and the slot machines. Every Casino I have been in has more floor space dedicated to slots than anything else. ROI per sq ft of slot machines has to be the highest of return of any business. The Hard Rock in Ft Liquiordale moved the poker tables out of the main Casino to make more room for slots. Slots run 24/7 while High rollers don't. Today's business climate is such that even High rollers are not as flush or numerous. Even on Friday and Saturday the Miccosukee Casinos have a hard time filling their poker rooms but the slots run 24/7.

The Riviera is not going anywhere.

Every year we go through these rumors. IF they go BK - the doors wil still stay open.

And to those say that we should move - HAHAHAHAHA - try to get a decent deal from the other venues that can provide the square footage we need.

AND if you get a deal for this year - just watch how the rates skyrocket when the economy rebounds.

I do not agree with all of the decisin made by the Riv - but they have shown a willingness to work with our industry.

I still say the players should support those that support them. Without the Riv support, all of these events would not be still be in existence.

I don't have a problem with the Riv, especially since they renovated the rooms. It's nice to be able to go to your room and rest in between matches. I agree that we should patronize those that support us.
For the most part most of us are there for the billiard events and not so much for a luxury suite where very little time will be spent.

I just hope that some changes are made at Cady's (restaurant) to make the visit more pleasant. I hate to go somewhere to wait to spend my money.
 
I don't have a problem with the Riv at all. Decent prices and a great place to play pool. what's the problem?? :)

i felt the staffing at the riviera was terrible, they were rude and didn't make the games you were playing fun at all. One craps dealer asked are you going to tip us? Which i would have had he not asked, i just got started
 
When I ventured into the casino, it took forever to get a simple draft beer. And, when i did, it was piss warm. Not to mention the attitude that went with it. And Cady's was THE MOST expensive place in Vegas. $15 bucks for breakfast ? You have to be kidding! So I went to the buffet. Again, overpriced crap. I couldn't even get a cup of coffee. Seriously, this place is a total joke. Is it soooo difficult to do things "regular" ? Ordinary ? What is the Riv....the Cleveland Browns of Casinos ???? Or perhaps the Oakland Raiders ?

I eat at the Riv prolly every day I am there. The food court, Katy's, Kristophers, and the snack area(s) in the convention center. It's always been decent food for me.

I do wander off to eat at other places out of the Riv when I have time, but I normally don't have time and like their food anyway.

Yea, I'm prolly in the norm.
 
Well, love it or hate it, it's the only game in town (as far as Pool is concerned). I'll be there in May...

We had very good service at Kadys. Lotsa bacon and eggs in the morning and the $12.95 T bone for suppers was plenty big. Also had a nice meal upstairs at the smorg too. No complaints from us, we'll be back. We didn't care for fancy shmancy accomodations as we weren't there to sleep anyway.

Keep in mind that the Riv is working on a skeleton crew these days and to put on an event like the BCA, APA, VNEA or ACS nationals they have to bring in employees that would otherwise be laid off. They do there best to work with the billiard industry but they are in bad shape. I can't see them turning down something like the BCA or the APA nationals but the smaller ones may have some problems. The casino is in its second reorganization so I hope they can get it worked out.

The casino makes its money off of the gambling and not the rooms or the food. That's why they remodeled the rooms, to attract higher stakes gamblers and that is why they don't offer the pool players a better room rate. Players don't gamble much in the casino's.

The history of organized amateur pool has taken place in that casino and hopefully it will remain a big part of it.

I have real knowledge. What the Wynn, Encore, Bellagio, Venetian, Palazzo, etc. are doing now works.
