Where's the Cue of the Year 2015 Thread?

PSOTY under new management was poorly managed
so the mods pulled it.

This should be qualified as your opinion, to which you are entitled. Several others felt as you did. However, you have no idea how many disagreed with your criticism.

Bob, to address you question; Jamie did not want to continue running the thread. It is alot of work to run it and keep it on point. We all owe Jamie a big thanks. Jamie, thanks for doing this service for all the members for so many years. I appreciated the opportunity to see all the great cues.

Skins offered to run the thread and as the curator wanted to try a new format. There were several very strong early entries, but the new format was met by sharp criticism from several posters. However, to my recollection, none of the "critics" had entered cues for consideration. Since this is a "free" service that a member volunteers to do for others enjoyment, and instead of producing that intent it was becoming a platform for complaining, why do it?

I know Skins has better things to do if other members want to" look a gift horse in the mouth". Skins requested the thread be taken down so that those who prefer a different format can indentify it and run it.

So, whether we like it or do not like it, we must learn to like it because now there is nothing.

Cue of the year 2015

How about this

I'll run it... If anyone is interested in this format.....

I'll post the thread in main section, with my personal email for those people who want to send one picture with the name of the cue of they wish to enter by a date deadline

Then I'll post each one in the cue gallery to vote on

Each person will have the opportunity to post a comment vote for and with that cues name by another deadline

You can talley for fairness but I'll talley the votes at the deadline and winner is the winner

Someone else is welcome to steal this idea and do it as I do have better things to do but I'll do it for everyone

I think you're slightly off base here. I was one of the "critics" (although I prefer to use the term 'realist'.) Frankly, if you're going to run a poll, the best way to do that is to use the 'poll' feature. It tallies the votes for you and makes it extremely clear which cue received which votes. Asking people to submit a picture that counted both as their nomination and their vote OR a description of the cue... it was confusing and perhaps not the best idea. It left people wondering "Why? How is this easier? It's just confusing." It limited people's options. No longer could a collector who took in multiple cues have all of them considered... unless he found other people to nominate them for him. Frankly, the voting process may have saved Tim time in terms of gathering up all the nominees into one thread but my guess is he would have HATED having to count all the votes, scrolling through pages and pages (if it even got that far) or posts and reading each one.

Still as a 'critic' even I nominated and voted for a cue. Jamie also didn't fully understand OR embrace the concept. But still, he nominated and voted for a single cue. Other 'critics' voted for cues as well. In the end, I have to wonder if perhaps Tim asked the thread to be pulled because he realized his system would have taken up MORE of his time or if it was because people just didn't like the format.

Why bother with formalities and just declare Jimmyrayk's Monster Boar the winner.

I have no idea what happened to the thread.

I feel strongly that an OB cue should be the cue of the year here on AZB in memory of Royce Bunnell.

Thank Tommy,
But I'm not sure I'd enter. I do all of this for three reasons. I love cues, I've met a tremendous amount of great people and purely for fun. I don't like the bullshit. I've got a real job. This is my hobby. And I love it.

That's all,
JimmyK

It's as simple as this... as I explained to Tim:

1. I do not have the time to truly run COTY as I feel it should be run
2. I believe COTY has run its course
3. There are varying opinions on what COTY should be

The intent of COTY in my mind was always about showing off all the great work in cue making each year, and not about winners and losers.

My vision moving forward would be to have one thread to capture all cues posted here in one place. No comments, no opinions, just a place to view all cues made during the current year for all to enjoy. That is what it is all about IMO.

WELL SAID EVERYONE ELSE IS SECOND INCLUDING MY NEW BOARS EXCEPT MY SILVER BOAR TAKE CLOSEST SECOND!

This is an awesome idea!

Jamie is right......how about just making this plural.......Cues Of The Year 2015........instead of singular.........sans any comments........just a pure photo gallery of cues made within any given year........photos only sans any posted reviews or comments from any Azers.........that would really be a lot more cool and enjoyable.

Actually Matt, that's not a bad idea. It might help to eliminate the endless campaigning that I'm seeing right now. It has turned what should be interesting viewing into something that is nauseating.

To add to the idea of a yearly cue gallery, the photos should be attached so that they persist regardless of people removing them from their sites.

LET'S SET THE RECORD STRAIGHT, SHALL WE...

NO!!! YOU are off base. I didn't want to run a "POLL" and never said I did. Jamie KNEW this as it was mentioned in my contact with him regarding my interest in doing it this year. HE TOLD ME TO HAVE AT IT BECAUSE HE DIDN'T HAVE TIME TO DEAL WITH IT. He may not have fully understood BUT that doesn't matter since he threw the duty away quickly and without reservation! That said I believe there was NO REASON to have a poll and it would have went on just fine with the cues that should have been recognized receiving their due.

It tallies the votes for you and makes it extremely clear which cue received which votes. Asking people to submit a picture that counted both as their nomination and their vote OR a description of the cue... it was confusing and perhaps not the best idea.

The "idea" would have worked FINE if you and others would have just went with the flow and givin' it a chance!!

It left people wondering "Why? How is this easier? It's just confusing." It limited people's options. No longer could a collector who took in multiple cues have all of them considered... unless he found other people to nominate them for him.

The reason it was done this way is because I believe COTY is for those who are regularly involved in the cue gallery section throughout the ENTIRE year. Those who see every cue posted and actually READ the threads all the way through to HEAR the stories behind the cues, get the feedback from others, and are GENUINELY interested in the craft. NOT THOSE JUST GOING TO LOOK AT "PIMP STICKS" as someone put it, move on, THEN peruse an eventual highly trafficked thread to "place" their influential vote which most likely holds no credibility to those cues that may actually DESERVE to be recognized for the criteria that I believe MOST would understand!!!

Frankly, the voting process may have saved Tim time in terms of gathering up all the nominees into one thread but my guess is he would have HATED having to count all the votes, scrolling through pages and pages (if it even got that far) or posts and reading each one.

WHO CARES ABOUT SAVING TIME AND WHO ARE YOU TO SPEAK FOR ANYTHING ABOUT WHAT I MAY OR MAY NOT HAVE BEEN THINKING!!!! I FOR ONE DIDN'T CARE ABOUT "MY DUTIES" AND WAS READY TO DO ALL THE WORK!!! IT'S OBVIOUS THOUGH THAT YOU AND THOSE LIKE YOU SURE DIDN'T OR YOU(S) WOULD HAVE MADE CIVIL SUGGESTION(S) TO MAKE MY VISION WORK RATHER THAN WHINE AND MOAN!!!!!

Still as a 'critic' even I nominated and voted for a cue. Jamie also didn't fully understand OR embrace the concept. But still, he nominated and voted for a single cue. WRONG AGAIN!!!! I WAS SICK AND TIRED OF THE FREAKIN WHINING AND DIDN'T WANT TO DO IT. FIRST TIME IN MY LIFE I HAVE EVER QUIT AT ANYTHING!!!!! THAT'S HOW BAD I THOUGH IT WAS!!

I'll paraphrase a sentiment shared with me by many since this debacle started... Things "here" have changed. NOT for the better. Too many have adopted the "Monday Morning Quarterback"/ " Back Seat Driver" attitude (undeserved) feeling comfortable being part of the problem rather than solution.

BOY, IT SURE LOOKS LIKE IT

It Is Way Too Easy To Be a Cynic.......

There's absolutely nothing wrong with trying a different approach as long as you give it a chance which didn't seem to happen with Tim's efforts to try something new with this year's contest. The proverbial rug was yanked from underneath skins' feet before being firmly planted yet......you have to allow a change some time to take root before deciding it wouldn't. Anyway, I vote to make it exclusively a display of cue photos without commentary, except from the cue's owner in their original posting of the cue, and discontinuing the voting or ranking process entirely. The cue's owner needs to identify the cue-maker, completion date & any cue particulars like specs or any other interesting details.....JMO.
