OK, Ive question about the blue circle versus red circle. Since the Cents and Super Pros are the same ball with only the graphics being different, why wouldn't these two cue balls also be the same, with just different graphics.
I mean, if the cue balls are different then either the Cents or the Super Pros are not a matched set, right?
No, because Super Aramith Pro sets do not come with the Aramith red-circle cue ball. The cue balls that currently come with, and previously came with, the Super Aramith Pro sets are made from the same resin and to the same specifications as the rest of the balls in the sets. This includes the
Aramith red-logo cue ball, the
six-red-dots (measles) cue ball, and the
red-triangle cue ball. Differences in new balls in diameter or weight from one cue ball to another, or from one object ball to another within a set, or from the balls in one set to the balls in another set, are just production variances. Differences in diameter or weight in used balls can result from use as well as from small differences in the balls when they were new.
The
blue-circle cue ball sold with Brunswick Centennial sets is made from the same resin and to the same specifications as the cue balls mentioned in the previous paragraph.
The resin used to make the
red-circle cue ball is different from the resin used for Centennials, Super Aramith Pro's, and all four of the cue balls mentioned in the previous two paragraphs. The resin in the red-circle cue ball is also used in Carom Aramith sets.
The source of my information on the resins and spec's is e-mail messages to me from the Saluc company in response to questions from me in 2008.
Edit: I should add that the more recent introduction of the Aramith Tournament balls leads to some new questions. Saluc says these balls, including the
black-logo-inside-a-split-circle cue ball that comes with the set, are made from a new, improved Duramith resin. Some people seem to feel the Tournament balls play a bit differently from the Centennials and Super Aramith Pro's. Will Saluc reserve the new resin just for the Tournament sets in the future? If the new resin really is better, won't Brunswick want it in the Centennial-labeled balls? Will we know when/if a change is made in Centennials or Super Aramith Pro's? Or will they discontinue Super Aramith Pro's at some point?
