I'm trying to add to my collection, and I would really appreciate any help in narrowing down my search. I'm interested in 8 point cues (knifed-in not inlays)that would be from cue makers that would be considered "master cue makers". Also I'm more interested in cues that play, I don't want just "artwork". I know these 8point knifed in cues are a challenge to build, but I believe they are more desirable because not everybody can build them (they are rare). Does Searing, B.Szamboti, Schick, Scruggs, etc.Any help is greatly appreciated.

Here's a good cue maker and very very much under-rated IMHO.

I think that you;ll find that the majority of cuemakers that don't have obviously rounded points are using the 90 degree v groove to make them, as for me it is easier to use the 90 degree v at an angle than to use CNC to cut out the pockets for the points and then hand cut the points to sharp edges and I can't imagine anyone being able to draw with a sharpy the points being sharp in a believable manner.

I think you mis understood what I was trying to convey.
What I am refering to , is when you have a ebony forearm. If you use a CNC and just cut pockets for inlaid points, The actual inlay can be cut with a razor sharp point, but the pocket that it fits into can be cut oversized and the rounded tip can be filled with black epoxy. The result will be points that look razor sharp.
-This can easily be done with any forearm wood that is dark.

Sorry for the confusion:)

-Are those inlaid points or are they (deep "v"/ knifed / spliced- call it whatever)

-I am always curious when the forearm is ebony or a dark wood?

- If they are are deep "v" and they are solid ivory- I'm impressed, controlling ivory so that is does not move is a very difficult thing to do.

Contact Chad McClennan of CAM Custom Cues. He posts here as CAMCUES. He has a recut cue with 16 points in the forearm. Its amazing.

I just found it using the advanced search, but i dont know how to posta link. Search by cam cues recut you will find it.

-I did the search, I found one post by Camcues it showed, I think one 8point cue, but I can hardly see the cue. also you it has a ebony forearm- you can see my earlier post about my hesitancy in buying cues with dark forearms.

I don't know about 8 points but if I were looking for a classic ultra sharp and even pointed cue I would definitely check out a Craig Peterson, He is known for exactly that, but I am in agreement with most of the post I read in this thread they can all make em.

i read your earlier posts but this cue isn't built that way. I know i was there while on many occasions during the assembly of this cue. Please contact Chad and let him xplain the process to you over the phone. Its no secret but its better heard from the horses' mouth.

-I have seen a couple in here, some better than others, But If they can all make them, then why don't the big name "masters" make them? I cant figure this out? I feel like if I'm going to drop 10k+ then I should be able to get a cue that comes from one of the "elite".
-I would like to get one from a cuemaker like Searing, Szamboti, Schick, Tad, Ernie, Stroud...etc

What???

Apparently you are not sure what you are looking for or at, because on any given day there are a half dozen different QUALITY cue makers work shown right here on this forum that have demonstrated the skills necessary to build "8 point knifed in points".The "Big Name Masters" build what their customers order they are not mass producing the for stock items in a pool room somewhere. The "Big Name Masters" are not Meucci or Viking Or Predator or any of the other production cue companies the are Custom Builders,

Please read the first line below my signature..

You say most cue makers do or can. I havn't seen any that do knifed in points. I've seen alot of cuemakers do inlaid points with a CNC machine, but that is not what I'm talking about. In regard to too much stuff on a cue, I'm not looking for a bunch of inlays, just 8 points, maybe 6 points

I should probably mention that unless you hope to find one on the secondary...you're going to be hard-pressed to get on the list for cues from B Szamboti and D Searing. I think I was told that Barry is about 10 years out, and I believe had discontinued taking orders as a result. I am betting that Dennis is getting similarly overwhelmed, and had been told that his list was closed. As to the other makers, I believe most all that you have listed are well over 5 years out on their lists as well...I am betting with some, even more.

However, one could venture a guess that if you are waving around 10 G's or better, one may be compelled to take the bait.
