Which CURRENT pro would you recommend a beginner to emulate?

I always thought cross dominant was an advantage in the your head will be slightly tilted to the inside, putting your left dominant eye naturally over the cue while your right hand strokes. Left foot naturally falls out and forward giving you the angle, and the cue is naturally on a line across the body, not held out and away like right eye/right hand shooter can do. The last time I checked Ronny Osullivan is the same cross dominant, right hand, left eye, slight left off center chin.

"Snookery" great word and completely relevant to the discussion.
Nice one.
Yes, to the beginner...it doesn't hurt to get snookery from the start.

I only mentioned it as a flaw because it has been speculated that Morra’s extreme left eye dominance led to his shoulder/neck injury and has forced him to shoot left handed

Dennis O. Shots what's required. Not just what he likes. What the shot needs is exactly the way he plays it. Now if we can only work on his hand shake.

Efren Reyes only because of his slip stroke and the way he gets over the ball.
Also I found Efren easy to emulate which led to me being able to make shots most people wouldn't even try.

I've always struggled with the way I get over the ball, but if I could do it like Efren on every shot pool would be much easier.
If you just want to get better I would watch Efren.

The Mad Magazine All-purpose Political Campaign Slur speech. One of the funniest things I ever read in Mad.

"My opponent masticates in public places while perambulating around young children!"

I haven't thought of that in over 50 years.

lol!! Glad i could bring it back for you

A beginner should pick a player to emulate who is physically most like him. Someone he can copy. He needs to watch some players and see whose form he likes and try to emulate him. A short guy is never going to get down on the balls like a tall guy and vice versa. Same goes for fat vs. thin build or righty vs. lefty.

Pick carefully who you want to copy! I picked up a lot from Danny D., Jimmy Reid and Richie Florence. I learned advanced One Pocket just watching Ronnie Allen play for hours and hours. His shot selection was unique as was his execution. It seemed he NEVER missed his out ball either. I don't care how hard the shot was, he made it!

No one ever got down on the balls better than Dan Louie. He screwed down so tight you knew he wouldn't miss the shot. Your only hope was that he would miss position. John Morra was close to him in this respect, but still not quite as good. Earl and Parica moved the cue ball better than anyone else in their primes. Corey is in the same league. Efren just made everything he shot at for thirty years! The most accurate cutter of the ball I've ever seen.

There's more but that's enough for now. My biggest influence was definitely Danny D.

Niels Feijen - fundamentals and fitness - there is no one more solid when it comes to fundamentals and his fitness level is second to none in the pool world which allows him to win matches when others start to fade
Ralf Souquet - mental game - when everybody else starts panicking he is as cool as cucumber
Shane van Boening - break shot and speed control - the sound of his break shot rips peoples ear drums while maintaining his control over cb; his speed control allows Shane to play many shots across the angle and still come up perfectly
any top taiwanese player - safety game - if they decide to bury their opponent then cb will end up in Alcatraz more often than not
Excellent selections!
Especially Niels for the fitness and fundamentals.....like a rock. No bad habits and no big mouth smartass chatter either.

I only mentioned it as a flaw because it has been speculated that Morra’s extreme left eye dominance led to his shoulder/neck injury and has forced him to shoot left handed

I had no idea that any of this happened. I though he had that mini retirement because of career choices. Wasn't aware they were medical complications like that.
I hope the best for him as I enjoy watching him play at the turning stone events.

First time I saw him play..2007...At 17 years old he went undefeated through the field and would lose to red hot Johnny archer in the TS finals. His dad is a snooker player stop that would explain his fundamentals.

Albin Ouschan. Rock solid fundamentals, cool under pressure, consummate professional.

. His dad is a snooker player stop that would explain his fundamentals.

His mom. Anita Kuczma McMahon could play real well too-For one short period, she was just behind Karen in the Northeast- saw them go hill hill in Binghamton once, both shooting around 900. Just after she got soooooooooo good-I never saw her again. ??

I know that Morra's major flaw is that he is left eye dominant but shoots right handed. However, other than that his game is right out of a textbook
Now that Morra has switched to playing lefty, his stance, alignment, and stroke now looks to be perfect. I also second both Melling and Feijen.

It is a stupid notion to ever try emulating any player's swing........golf, baseball, pool.....doesn't matter.

Everyone's anatomy is different and look at the variety of different poses and swings of the greatest.

As long as you are consistent with your approach all the time, not most of it, you have a solid base.

Adhere to the fundamentals & own it all the time until it becomes automatic & only then personalize.

If you try copying the swing or stroke of another player, always remember you're a distinctly different person.

Agreed, as well as for sportsmanship and professionalism.

Hate to disagree given Ralfs records. But from a fundamentals standpoint he is an awful choice to emulate, IMO

He pulls inwards on the back-swing, and cues across the ball on many occasions when the timing isnt perfect. He also has a bridge thats too long by virtue of holding his cue all the way at the back among other things.

Of course his metal game is another matter all together.

I agree with Jay. You want someone same handed and dominant eyed. And the body type will help too.

As for playing style, I love Shane Van Boeing, Earl Strickland, Buddy Hall and Cory Deuel.

Alex but he's to all around good for me...

My game goes down about a ball and a half, any time i watch svb or feijen play. That pause is brutal, to me.
