which pool star would you like a movie made?

who would be cast as Keith

I brought this up in a previous thread. Who could we cast as the players in these films we are suggesting. Several people have mentioned Keith McCready (including myself) ..... I'm thinking maybe James Woods

thats a good one i was thinking michael douglas as john madden maybe for the miz now that would have to jackie gleason only man with enough character.

I hate to be the one to inform you. Jackie Gleason passed away last century.

Star

A story about Whimpy Lassiter would be good. Get Tony Shalube (spelling?), the guy who plays that manic compulsive detective to be Lassiter. Lassiter was quite a character. Allergic to a regular job, huge hypocondriac, neer do well, sort of a slob. But he's probably one of the five greatest pool shooters who ever lived. Hollywood could put a romantic slant on it and it'd sell.

McCready is my top pick

I think Freddie the Beard has a script for a movie that is based on Clooney on the road. Sounds promising; Freddie knows how to tell a story...

Anyone with a copy of the DeLiberto book (CD) who wants to sell/trade can PM me.

Movie about Jack & Barbara

The best pool movie would be about JACK COONEY.
If someone could get him & Barbara to collaborate on a script - It would be even better than "The Hustler".

Damn Tom, dont you know for the last five years that I have been working on a movie script based loosely on Barb & Jack Cooney? It's 98 per cent completed. I have had zero collaboration/cooperation from Barbara. She does not want a movie highlighting her exploits. Wont come out from under the covers even at this late date. I had to change all the names. No matter, we all spent enough time together on the road, and here in Chicago. I have plenty of material. They lived with me for about 3 months. When this movie is made they will throw rotten tomatoes at Pool Hall Junkies and Color of Money.

When is the release date?

I figure with the book "Hustler Days" by R.A. Dyer you have the script you plug in Tom Hanks as Lassiter, Matthew McCounaughey as Jersy Red, and another strong actor as Fats. You have winner.

My top two choices would have to be Jean Balukas and Ralph Greenleaf. I believe someone mentioned Jude Law playing Greenleaf. I think that would be great casting.

Many good mentions. Adding one to the mix:
UJ Pucket played by Donal Logue

Ralph Greenleaf

My friend J D Dolan, a poolplayer/english professor/writer from Kalamazoo is writing a movie script based on the life of Ralph Greenleaf. He gave me a peek at the first 30 pages and it looks pretty good.
My script? I am searching for a live one to produce it.

Hi,
How long he is going to take to finish that !!! He started it more than 2 years ago.

I agree- Efren for obvious reasons, but I'd vote vor McCready, Jack Cooney or maybe Bill Staton.

A movie about Keith or Efren would be great, just imagine the thousands of gambling stories they have from being on the road!

Black-Balled, I remember many years ago Jack Cooney and his girlfriend coming to D.C. area and ended up at the old Golden Cue in Bladensburg. I did not get the opportunity to see him play at that time, but I heard about a horrible incident through the pool grapevine.

Jack Cooney was playing some guy at the Golden Cue, and some thugs came into the pool room and put a gun to his face, demanding all of his dough. His girlfriend wouldn't give it up, and they shot her. She survived, but I remember thinking how dangerous it was to be in action games at that time.

BTW, Geese grew up playing pool at the Golden Cue.

Is this an urban legend, or did this really happen?

I recall the tale as well, but do not have anything to add/ verify. I remember that the people at my pool hall basically forbade us young'ns from going there tho

No legend, true. Barbara wound up getting shot in the ass. Jack chased the shooter.
