Which route do you take?I feel that 2 is the easiest but 1 is the safest
and the correct path for me.

How do you play it? (Bar Box).

to, too, two

I'd use 2 with that arrangement all day long. There's less cue ball movement and therefore less risk involved. Only when the 7 is close to the 1st diamond away from the corner would I switch to high right.

Route 2 would be my choice, too. But it's good to know how to hit both for when there is too much traffic going the simpler way (route 2).

I'd go with route 2 as well. But I know why you're asking this question! This is a barbox, most likely with a heavy/magnetic cue ball that's not easy for many players to draw -- thus the likelihood of scratching in the side is commonplace. The trick is a level cue and a firm/authoritative stroke. On some tables (namely the Dynamo tables with the Aramith Red Dot Dynamo heavyweight cue ball), you really have to smack the p!ss out of the ball to draw it.

From that diagram, even if it is a barbox, the 7 appears to be too high, thus the scratch in the opposite corner looks too big to take route 1? If it misses the scratch it looks like it would hit the 9 on the way back. I vote route 2 all day.

Route 2. And that's assuming of slower felt on a well-used bar table.

You still have to hit the living hell out of the cue ball in route 1 to send it that far, especially on a BB.

There's less CB movement with route 2. And maybe a little more predictibility with draw on the bar box.

Where do you buy a ball that is full of piss? I only have ones that have poo and jizzzz.

I think the OB goes into the pocket easier witl L) draw, as opposed to hi-R)

Sean my friend i dont have any problem with drawing the ball.Check out 1:04 in this video and thats just my baby jab stroke!lol:wink:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ljqq4fbIKEM

I have been burned to many times going route 2.(Scratch in the corner)
It is really hard to go 3 rails and scratch in the corner going route 1.
Try this when ever you get a chance get route 1 down and shoot each (1,2)
shot about 10 times. You might be surprised on the results.Again on a bb.

Anthony:

I never said you did. I was editorializing for the purposes of engaging the question "why would anyone NOT consider route #2 -- what thoughts would be in their mind that would make them 'shy' or 'skittish' about the shot?" I was actually giving you credit for the opportunity to raise it and address it. That's all. :)

If you hit route 1 too soft you are screwed.
if you hit route 2 too hard you will still have a shot.
if you hit hit with the right amount of low left its an easy shot.

route 1.5

Route 1 is not a viable normal shot and would never try that unless there was absolutely no other option.I would go with 2 or use less draw and bounce it twice.Route 1 is so tough that beofre trying that I would go rail first with right hand spin, witch is sorta insane as well but a lot of fun (if) it works.

OK i moved the 7.I wanted the shooter to think about both routes.
In my first picture i think i put the 7 a little to far down the table.

My thought on this is how easy is it to get away from the side pocket? If it's super easy to avoid the side then I prefer to play it two rails for shape unless the angle is pretty natural to come to the first diamond.

CueTable Help

If I have to really work it just to get past the side then I look to the three rail route. Generally one or the other will be the far better choice.

Dr. Dave has a video on middle table paths. This is particularly useful for learning the angles to come to the first diamonds on the long rails. You can find on his VEPS demos. I am sure if he sees this then he will provide a link. ;-)

Route 2 all day and night. You have perfect postition for the basic sot of them all.
taking to route 1 is begging to go busted!
