Which table do pros prefer?

That is ABSOLUTELY FALSE. i love it when people post stuff that does not make logic. Olhauson uses acc-fast cushions whiach (I believe) cost around $20-$25 peer set. Diamond uses Artemis cushions made in Europe - they cost in excess of $150.00 per set.

I am only talking about 9' tables.

I have never heard of any sets of Artemis going bad (getting hard) where I have heard a lot of horror stories of cheaper imported sets going bad. Ask Bob Jewett about the Brunswicks at a room he plays or Diamond on rubber used a few years back - or Rebco in the early 80's. And I have never heard of the rubber manufacturer making good on it. It is up to the table people to make it right.

PLEASE - PLEASE get your facts right.

I think the table debate is over. Diamond wins. These guys at Diamond are doing it right, they are improving yearly. I think their standards of quality along with the passion for the game have resulted in the best table out of the factory that can be bought. Brunswick dropped the ball and Diamond Products is leaving them in the dust. Brunswick may still have name identification over the Diamonds but the lucky uniformed table buyer gets turned on to the Diamonds and never regrets it.
While other table manufacturers look for cost cutting ideas Diamond just looks for higher quality while keeping the price reasonable...Diamonds forever...:)

Wow, the debate is over. Imagine that. I thought they were both great tables, and it came down to personal preference. I prefer the gold crowns, but I like the diamonds too. Maybe I'm crazy, drunk or just stupid. My friends will tell you it's a combination of all three.:D

I don't think that's true with the Aretmis cushions.
The Olh's rubber is really neither a K55 or K66 profile.

I was quoting one of the busiest and best table techs in Tennessee who actually buys table components on a daily basis.

Do you have broad, direct experience in buying cushions?

Hello Mark,

Please note that I have your company "HUGE props" for what you have achieved in the pool table market.

Also, please note that I did not present my comment as "fact" but rather specifically quoted the table tech who is HIGHLY respected in this area.

A) He could be wrong.

B) I may have misunderstood what he said.

I am currently checking directly with Olhausen and if I passed on comments that were in error (as I now assume I did, given your comments) I will post a retraction here.

But I am sure we can all agree that the cost of a given product does not necessarily mean that it performs better than some less expensive product.

Most importantly, I have great admiration for Diamond tables and what your company is doing for the pool community which such "modern legend" tournaments as the DCC.

This is a good point. Even if Gold Crowns and Diamonds were of the same exact quality, Diamond wins by default because they are supporting pool in a much bigger way than Brunswick right now.

I dont know about the pros but this amature prefers Diamonds.The leather? over the pockets.The wide rails with no junk sticking up enterfear with a cue or bridge hand.

Diamond do take some getting used to.The rails are springy and banks can come up well short of what you are used to.The pockets play true IMO,as do the tables.

I do know one older gentleman who is having a tough time adjusting to the "speed" of some 9 foot Diamonds in my area.I think it is because he has adjusted to fast and slow tables before but he has never had to adjust to fast cloth and bouncy cushions.

I'd say they'd prefer the table whose company is willing to give them a sponsorship deal. Other than that I don't think it really matters as long as the table is in good condition.

I like the bumper pool table at the boys club when I was growing up.
 
The pros I have asked about this really only mention Gold Crowns and Diamonds. Most say Diamonds too, esp tight diamonds. Like JCIN said before, the tighter the better.

I have played on a bunch of different equipment and prefer in this order:
1) Brunswick GC 1/2
2) Diamonds
3) Kim Steel
4) Gabriels
5) Old school Gandy Big Gs
 
It's too bad that Kim Steel never got a foot hold in the US. I love mine. My only caveat is that it is not the tight pocket version (you could order it in three pocket sizes, I'm told).

the new gc5 tournament edition looks llike the nuts. I got the metro tournament edition a while back, since the GC only came with wide pockets. If the GC had come with the 4.5 pockets id have gotten that instead.
 
I haven't measured them, but the Brunswick GC tables I play on at one hall definitely have tighter pockets than the Diamonds I play on at another hall.

Im no pro, but here is my input.

My rails on my Olhausen are the best, IMO, otherwise I like the old Diamond tables.

If they used the rubbers from my Olhausen on Diamonds, that would be the best of both worlds.

EVER WONDER HOW MANY THOUSANDS OF GOLD CROWNS ARE OUT THERE?
