I always though Lebrons best game was 1pocket, but as we all know he won the US.open 9ball, and there is a lot of great players that never won the US.open 9ball and never will, so i think this Man must of played dam good to win what he has, i also was told Lebron bet high and always played his best while gambling. sorry for the mispelling of player at top! i dont know how to change that.

Spanish Mike was always known as one of the best players that played at Fusco's. He always played with that cheap Meucci cue. Of course back in the 1970's and 1980's you had a big advantage by using a Meucci Cue.

Player

OLD MEUCCIS ALWAYS PLAYED NICE AND THE BEST PART WAS THEY WERE SHORT MONEY.......

You are correct,Sir.

When I saw the Mike Lebron thread, my first thought was, Ask Jimmy and Petey Fusco! They have more knowledge of Spanish Mike than anyone I know. Jimmy told me once that, playing 9 ball Mike could shift gears so quickly it wasn't possible to get an edge on him. You are correct about that Meucci Cue!

Saw Lebron playing for money in germany long ago, when the worlds in 9b had been here in germany. He gave crazy handicaps- and won em all. It was easy to see, that Lebron not really had to take care about money. He shot very well and looked always extremly relaxed.

Mike Lebron

If a player could win the US Open when he was in his prime he had to be one of the top players around. The first time I saw Mike play was Around the early 90's in Columbia, SC at the RakMup Classic and he was easily one of the best players in the tournament.

That was supposed to be a secret, George! lol.

I just remembered that I lost a bet because of Lebron's cue.
I play with a 12mm tip and I bet that it was the smallest in the room...
...Mike Lebron was playing with an 11.5...
...his explanation "I like to SPIN the ball."

Around Philly, Mike was also known as 'Iron Mike'.....
..he could play for the dough...

I think articles on the Web say he sort of tutored in Efren when he first came here to the US. Like showed him the ropes....

He had a camper that he used to take road trips with players. Guaranteed that anyone who stepped off that camper was a stone cold champion.

Efren was in it, more than once,I saw.

Still travels or hosts/rooms with Efren and his camp at the Derby City Classic.

I brought Johnny Ervolino to Tacony Billiards in Philly shortly after Mike Lebron won the US Open, and he did not want to play Johnny any one hole!
On the other hand who did! He was playing Cornflakes, and spotting him a Dollar bills length that Cornflakes could move the cue ball after every shot ( Hand Span )! He did not like that either!
I still think that he was a good player, or how else did he win so much, especially at a late age!
Wish all the negativity would Fly away! Just a short little story about the game we all love!

You sure you don't mean South Philly billiards?
While Spanish Mike was a fixture at Tacony when it opened, Flakes had pretty much stopped playing serious pool by that point.
Tacony didn't open till 92 or 93. 4 or 5 years after Mike won the open.

Mike Lebron

No this was in Dec. - Jan. 89-90! Wasn't Tacony all Glass front building, and over the Walt Whitman bridge?
