White Diamond Billiards, home of the famous 40K calcuttas, is just a couple three hour ride from the homeplace but for one reason or another I've never made the trip. Last night Michael, the420trooper, was down from Oklahoma and visiting family near White Diamond's giving me a little extra encouragement to visit the hall.

White Diamonds is a nicely laid out and clean pool hall, well managed also. Friendly owners and staff too. Added bonus, friendly players. Michael was on an eight footer when I got there, maybe one of the old super eights or pro eights, seemed a little odd sized. A nearby player noticed we were going to play one-pocket and offered up his nine footer he was on. I thought he was quitting play but he moved over to the table we left. Just a very generous offer to two strangers. I'll have to make a trip or three back that way although there was one thing I didn't expect in a place named White Diamonds, no Diamond tables!

Michael was exactly what I expected, even better in person than on the net. A pleasure to visit with and a pleasure to play with. All poker and no pool for almost a year told the story and it took me awhile to even get enough game going to make it interesting for Michael. Fortunately I maintained my policy of not gambling with friends so came home only the poorer for a little table time and a tank of gas in the thirsty pig of a Dodge truck I drive.

No surprise, in a nice hall with cigarette smoke well controlled and with good company I stayed a few hours longer than planned and rolled into the driveway in the wee hours. I did make it home before sun-up though, sure sign I'm getting old!

Sounds like a great time Hu. I pulled a all nighter on Tuesday night when a old friend came to town and wanted to get together. He is a stronger player then myself and he wanted to play for a buck a game. After many hours of play I owed him eight dollars;)....not to bad for no more then I have been able to play lately.

I usually don't miss threads with my name in the title. Only a year late in replying, but Hu is one of the coolest people I've ever met.

In the short time we spent together, he foiled an attempted robbery, rescued a cat from a tree, and stopped a meteor from crashing into the city. :D

Might be back down that way this summer, and it's my turn to drive.

The REAL question is how did you stumble across this thread, a year later? Were you doing a search on your screen name?

Isn't that like spending too much time looking in the mirror? :p

I was required to google myself back in the day...

(Don't act like you've never googled yourself) ;)

Working at the JTF down at GTMO, we had to wear tape to cover our name badges on our uniforms.

We were asked to google ourselves regularly to make sure no hits were put out on us or our families by Al Queda and other terrorist groups...

He commented when I posted a thread about meeting Lou and said I hadn't posted one when I met him. I told him I had posted a thread but didn't remember if I had said good things or bad. Naturally the search was on!

Edit: Don't exaggerate Michael, I don't remember anything about a cat. Guess I might have John Candy'd one out a tree and forgot about it though.

Gotta watch those lists. A friend of mine spent some time in indian country in nam. In the last decade or so quite a few people that served there have been revisiting the country. He was warned not to, they are still checking a naughty or nice list when you enter the country and he was on the list. Once had a bounty on him, might still have it. He shot in the thousand yard competitions for Uncle Sam between wars, can't quite remember what he did in viet nam and korea.

Hey Hu,
Thank God you are here to get old. If you were gone you would not get old! Does that make sense? Did I say that right? I still like you and you said you are getting old!
Now, was that place as nice as Buffalo's Billiards, the worlds pool hall?

You should have played the guy poker if that is what you have been playing for a year!!!
Many Regards,
Lock n load.

Nice in different ways

Lock,

Just judging from those few hours there White Diamond is very nice but it didn't strike me as the kind of hard core pool hall Buff's is. I wouldn't say one is nicer than the other, just different.

I'd be willing to bet there would be more pretty girls and more loose money around Diamond's on the weekend, I have a huge weak spot for cajun babes! More money around Buffalo's but it isn't loose, you have to work for it.

If you came to play pool Buffalo's has the edge by a good bit. Hate to give Buff's second best at anything but if you came to party I suspect White Diamond could give Buff's the orange crush on the weekends.

I'm getting older and meaner by the day. Ain't complaining though, I like it better than any other options offered!
