white micarta ferrules

Well lets make our own batch. I've got my beakers & test tubes ready. I also went down to the local elementary school & got some asbestos from the ceiling. What else do we need?:D

By law you can dispose of nearly anything. It just has to be disposed in a law abiding manner. It would be more dangerous to keep a warehouse of micarta than disposing of it. If there was a explosion it could aerate all of those fibers. That would be a huge liabilty for the owner of the warehouse. There are 5 landfills alone in Indiana that are allowed to accept asbestos among many more dangerous materials.

like i said it could be an urban legend like pd said, but it is what i was told.maybe the cost of dumping tons of asbestos is high?who knows?

I am pretty sure the owner would not have a choice in the matter. The Fed's would be all over them.

With all due respect, That is prolly some kind of urban legend.

I was told about, 15 years ago, by the owner of a company that sold
to custom knife makers, that a group of them tried to get Westinghouse
to make one last batch. Offered $50k, W-hse passed.
Of course, 50 grand may not seem like much to a corp of their size.

Tap!!! Tap!!!! Tap!!!!!! I totally agree, because while it possible that they may not beable to sell, because it it considered a Hazardous Material. There is nothing that can not be properly packaged and disposed of as such.

I have some of the old yellow micarita I got about 20 years ago. its in block form, enough for about 3 ferules. not sure what i want for it.:D

You should receive about a dozen pm's for that one.

the more i think about it the more it seems like an urban legend.it would be nice to run across though it it were true.

Since others hav already chimed in, this won't really be piling on.
I was also thinking materials much more toxic than Micarta
are disposed of all the time. Besides, you really have to try to expose
yourself to get any bad effects. It isnn't like loose insulation
that might someday crumble into dusty clumps,
You would have to sand it agresively with no mask.

I don't think ther is any Holy Grail of
statshed yellow Micarta.

Yeah there is probably more toxic stuff out there even in today's times, but from back then what about the old brake pads? They use to get grinded up into a fine dust, and were blown off with a air compressor By mechanics for many years, more then likely without any kind of mask on. I don't know which was higher in content the micarta or pads, but they both had the stuff in them from What I know of.
