White spots on balls

I have a problem with white spots appearing on my balls. No matter what brand of balls, Super Aramith pro, premier, cheap ployester balls. I can see the spots after the first game after I clean them, on every ball. I don't think its chalk because its white spots. I can rub it out with my fingernail. I just replaced my cloth 860 to velocity pro and I still see the spots, so it cant be the cloth.

I use aramith ball cleaner liquid and a microfibre cloth. I just cant figure it out. I don't think its chalk because I get more than 1 spot on balls after 1 game. I stopped using the aramith ball cleaner but the spots keep appearing. At the pool hall I see the occasional spot but not even close to as many as I get.

Any ideas what this is and how to prevent it?

I suspect it's ball collision marks in the thin layer of polish on the balls. If you're polishing by hand I doubt you're getting it all off.

This sounds like the probable culprit. I used to get these more when I polished my set by hand but not nearly as much since I bought a machine. My machine not only spins the balls thousands more rotations than I can do by hand, but I also use a lot less cleaner.

Try this: Don't use any polish on them for a while and hand rub off the spots using just a clean towel and maybe just a little water if necessary. See if over time the instances of the spots lessens. That will tell you if it is probably related to polish residue.

the different size spots makes me think its from the pockets or something softer than the balls . What kind of table is it? plastic pockets or leather? Ball returns?
 
They look like friction burns... Which makes me think you have kids... You should never hit any ball but the cueball with a cue for this reason........

Sure. I bought a Diamond ball polisher from a member named Donny who goes by SDBillards here. I suppose you could order it from Diamond directly as well. There are a couple of other makes out there but I think the Diamond machine is the best. There are also plenty of threads on here and videos on youtube about how to make a DIY ball polisher if you're on a budget.

I am now cleaning my balls over and over using just a cloth. I am still getting the spots but just slightly less. I think that aramith ball cleaner is permanently embedded in the ball now. I think my 2 sets of super aramith pro are ruined. I wouldn't really care too much about the spots but it makes the balls skip horribly. If I still had the receipts I would call my class action lawyer friend; he's always looking for a good fight.

I bought a new set of non aramith balls and guess what, no spots. Im never buying aramith products again and throwing away that aramith ball cleaner.

Anyone from Aramith here who would like to respond?

I doubt they are ruined or that the polish is forever impregnated in the balls. Just wipe them down with a damp towel a few times and play with them. The spots should go away over time.

I suspect your table has Herpes, this is pretty common but not easy to fix. :smile:
 
I'm using super pros and aramith ball cleaner, and don't have the problem. My polisher is a DIY with a microfiber pad, and I only use about 5-6 drops for the whole set every month or so. FWIW, dawn dish soap is good for stripping wax off of cars, you might have luck with that.
