Who are the " Fan Friendly" Pro's

I am freinds with tons of the top players and text or talk to alot of the top 15 players in the country. BUT there is one that I hate and that acts like a complete jerk off. But I won't mention names. Use your imagination!

everyone else is kool as hell. Just walk up to your favorite player intoduce your self and I am sure they will be happy to talk to you, providing their not in a match, or on their way from a match, or just have lost a match lol!

Shaun Wilkie, Mike Davis, Matt Krah, Johnny Archer, Stevie Moore, Brandon Shuff, SVB, Dennis Hatch, are all cool and great guys to talk to about pool. All are top notch dudes.

Scott Frost

Believe it or not at Derby City this year I got to meet alot of the pros for the first time and Scott was by far the easiest to talk to. I know a few of them from my old pool hall and found most of them are great unless focused on something else.

The only one I have met that was very friendly and chatty, if you did know know them before, was Grady. I met him at a Joss tour stop many years ago, said Hi, and the whole day when he saw me he treated me like I knew him since he was 15 hustling pool during the great depression. Archer and Kennedy are very friendly and polite, I think it has to do with the fact that they are both religious as any priest you will meet, must have gotten some manners there for sure.

I believe Grady wasn't born until January 3rd, 1943.

So it's doubtful he was hustling pool during the great depression.

Never met one that gave the "get outta here, kid" brush-off like you see from professionals in other sports. A couple that stick out though - Schmidtty is a downright funny guy, and I'd have to say would be really cool to hang out with. Nick Varner (who's been mentioned by many already) is quite amiable, and seems genuinely pleased to meet all those around him....VERY COOL! Oh, and I'll throw Shane (SVB) in that category too. He comes off as very down to earth, fun, and not an "above it all" type.

Charlie Bryant, Sylver Ochoa, and Brandon Shuff are pretty easygoing. Scott Frost and Cliff seems pretty fan friendly in my experience, despite all the talk i hear.

I've found Earl is Fan Friendly. Not that he has many, but he is USUALLY cordial to the ones he does have. Just dont shark him!

Most of the so-called "pros" I've met are friendly. As somebody posted earlier in the thread, timing is everything, though, when you meet them.

If you're at a big tournament, you run into a lot of them. If they are en route to their match, as an example, running late, it could be they are not going to stop and chat. This could give the wrong impression that they did not want to be friendly. :p

One time in Massachusetts, I was snapping photos, like I usually do at pool happenings, and I walked up to Santos and asked him if I could take his picture. He said, "Not now. I have to shoot next." I understood why. What player would want to get a flash in their eyes right before they have to shoot pool competitively?

Some folks have written that they are upset when pro players refuse to sign autographs. Unfortunately, some pro players get upset when they sign autographs and/or give away signed photos for free, only to see them for sale upon eBay. I have mixed feelings about this one.

Anyway, it is true that pool is one field where the pro players are very reachable by the fans, unlike other professional fields. In that sense, we are all very fortunate to be able to hang out with Alex, Efren, Earl, Johnny, and the rest of today's Super Stars!

The most fan friendly player that i've met was Minnesota Fats.
I also liked Ga-young Kim, Alan Hopkins, Gabe Owen, John Schmit, and especially Earl Strickland (really).
All of the pro players I've met have been pretty cool

Rodney

For me it's
Rodney Morris # 1
Nick Varner#2 (circa1990)
Johhny Archer was really nice
Earl, Kim, were the only asses in the bunch.

There is a time and place for fan friendly interaction. Sometimes overly zealous fans can be crazy, as easily observed from some posts on this forum (mostly people that do things to get banned).

I think if the players were given, dedicated time to fans as opposed to spontaneous demands for their attention, it would work out better. It would give the player a safety net, knowing if something happens, people are there looking out for them. As opposed to some player thinking it their obligation to interact with someone specific and then it results in a disaster.

But rarely do promoters schedule time for players to have dedicated player-fan interaction. It usually happens at award dinners, where people have to uphold a degree of civility.

But a spontaneous player-fan interaction is dangerous. I'd hate to point out the extreme cases of theft, stalking and violence but it happens, and sometimes it happens for no reason at all.

It'd be great to see tournament promoters fit it into a schedule, dedicated player-fan interaction time.

This is another fault of tournament promoters. They don't provide player-fan interaction time.

Player-fan interaction usually happens at award dinners? Who are you, and what planet do you live on? The majority of player-fan interaction happens in common areas at pool events. Anybody who says otherwise is talking out of their rectum. Hmmm...

The OP asked who fan friendly pros are, not where tournament promoters have fallen short lately. You've already covered that thoroughly in your other 10-15 threads. You should definitely focus more on quality over quantity.

To stay on topic, John Schmidt and Shane Van Boening were both very friendly when I had interactions with them. Also, Nick Varner is always a really nice guy when he's in town as well, super easy to talk to and willing to just hang out.
