i'm going to choose someone to wrap my peterson cue in SMOOTH GLOVE LEATHER. not embossed or some weird reptilian underbelly.

normally i would ask stroud(i still might as he did a great one for me), but he is a bit handicapped at present.

so i'm thinking of,,,,hercek,,,szamboti,,,scruggs,,,tad,,,gutierrez. the thing is...i don't know if these guyz will do it, or if they can turn it around in a short period of time. i would trust all five implicitly with my peterson. but other than stroud, i'm not familiar with their leather work.

can anyone offer insights on the other five? remember,,,this is for smooth glove leather. also, i think someone who offers the best variety of brown leather would be advantageous.

thanks for all your help, you cue-connoisseurs, you :):)

Ernie gets the title

My number one choice would have to be Ernie Gutierrez (Ginacue). I have never seen a better wrapped cue and I love his knotched double lines at the ends.

All cuemakers that you mentioned are great by the way... you wont go wrong with any of them. Be careful though it might take them a year to get to your cue ...LOL

I am not certain in respect to the glove leather, but one person who came to mind around these parts is Bob Frey, who was with Scruggs for many years. I have seen some really nice leather work come from him, but never anything like you are referring to. I do know that he has a relatively short turnaround time, however. Might be worth a caall.

Paul Fanelli in Clifton, NJ

Paul Fanelli in Clifton, NJ does phenomenal leather wraps. All the work he has done for me has been returned to me within the week.

I think Ernie would do it, why not?

I would go with Ernie (or Barry) too. He can probably turn it around OK. Ernie has a signature mark he puts in the leather - it's a groove near the ends. Sharp looking. He's one of the best. He does wraps for other cue makers.

Barry, of course, does a great wrap too. Why don't you call them and see how long it would take?

Barry's number is (215) 357-5032

Ernie's is: (818) 509-0453

Fight On!

The problem with Ernie is I have seen a Bushka with the double grooves and it was horrendous. Talk about out of place. But then again, its Ernies trademark. Fanelli is probably your best bet, for smooth leather I like the kangaroo over any other material.

jerry and ernie have the same machine that put the double groves in the leather, and i dont think ernie is working on anything other than his own cues, but as far as a peterson i would have joel put a glove leather smooth and his wraps are fantastic! Bill

How about kenny murrell he does awsome wraps so does mike webb on this board!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Keith Josey

Keith Josey does leather as well as anyone out there. he is a master at applying leathers and he won't let the cue leave his shop untill it's perfect. the turn around would also be quick.

Bruin,

Let me know when your going to be at the pool hall. I'll let you take a look at my Fanelli and the leather wrap job he did on the cue.

Dennis Searing

I have seen a few Searing leather wraps and i am having him put one on my TITLESt he is rebuilding for me. None better. Its hard to see the seam on his work. A true master.

Also have you considered a tiger stack wrap. I have 2. One on my Lambros and one on my BOB MANZINO , titlest. These are sharp wraps and they are solid. They can bee somooth or have a texture depending on the way they are polished.

Ed Prewitt does his own leather wraps. Prewitt and Ernie both buy leather wraps from Tiger Products here in sunny Southern California. The problem Bruin is going to have is Ernie doesn't have or won't do smooth leather. I asked for it on 2 cues I had made last year and Ernie said "I don't have it."

"Glove" leather has little to no temper (stiffness) and is not generally used on cues. Of the guys he mentioned Hercek searches for his own leather sources for wraps and I would think he could satisfy Bruin if he had the time to work on someone else's cue.

i don't mind the crimping. and i'm sure ernie would have a variey of leathers to choose from.
