 Iam courious as to who you think does the best finish and who does the best repair? all the factors -Product used and ability -turnaround time - repair capability-and customer service , all a factor? ive heard dif things from every body like jim Buss can fix anything! dennis sering can make a mucci play like a bushka but getting him is impossible- bill stroud is amazing but you wont see your cue for a year! Bcm has the best finish in the industry_ sherbine at proefficant is the best in the buis! these are all statments ive heard since Ive been in this buis Please inform me as to what you guys know as facts, for future referance! thank you Bill

Bryan Mordt at BCM has my vote! He does better shafts than most of the original makers, and I've had him do work on everything from Joss West to a Zylr that he's currently working on, for re-finishes. He's also done some amazing repairs for me, and everything has been very reasonable and done in a timely fashion.

there's way too many and they're all good. BUT,,,i also think most clients aren't particular.

i had webb replace a cracked ivory joint in my peterson, refinish a chipped butt, and replace the wrap. (ivory was some EXTREMELY hard stuff that made the cue unplayable, and the wrap was burring) mike did a very very good job. i think i would entrust all my petersons with him.(and i'm VERY protective of my cues)

and he was on time. none of this "cuemaker's calender" crap. and i may be wrong on this but i think it best to work with cue repair from the region. i would be hesitant to send a cue from new york to scottsdale's desert.

I second that. He refinished my 89 southwest about 5 years ago. A little bit after that I sent it to laurie just because I thought it would be nice to have it authenticated. When I talked to her she mentioned that that's as good a refinish as she has ever seen (outside of vegas of course). So when i acquired my TAD a few months ago and decided on getting it done it was a no brainer. Brian is honest, reliable, polite, a good communicator, and most importantly he delivers a superb final product!

I am not sure where the Guy who started this Thread lives, but I haver heard BCM talking about ONLY POSITIVELY.

I know the Pool & Darks Shop at 15 AVE & (1300 Something) Indian School in PHX say they have had BCM do sever tought jobs for them. With ZERO Customer Complaints. :D

You send a Barry Szamboti and an ivory handled cue to Sherbine and you ask this AFTER the fact? They don't need a confused smiley they need an I am an idiot smiley. Then at 4:00 pm today, in another thread, you answer your own question. LOL

Joe (---thinks you should know Scotty graces us weekly with his new arrivals, so its not a secret

I use Scott and Matt from Proficient for basic repairs and refinishing. They are super honest, careful, and their finish work is among the best available. I have never been dispappointed by them and they've done a lot of cues for me. Scott made a couple of replacement windows for me that were identical to the originals.

I forgot to mention, Scott does excellent leather wraps too. What I really like is how reliable they are. 10 working day turn around is the norm.

Having seen Sherbine's very nice work I like Mike Webb's finish better.

It seems thicker and/or more robust.

Just my 2 cents

Well, Bill, I have heard plenty of good about Proficient but the only repair work from my area sent to him came out pretty bad. You know the cue, a Kikel with a steel joint that they changed to ivory. The joint was not faced even and cracked the first time. The second attempt came back with glue lines and overspray. The cue was then sent to Dave Kikel who refused to repair the cue because it had been "butchered".

I agree with the local/area approach. I use Jacoby frequently and have never had a problem. If there were at least I can talk to them face-to-face easy enough.

Sorry to hear that, Scott and I talk once in a while and I consider him a friend. When you get a chance, please send me the cue and I'll take care of it. I leave Tuesday for a trip to White Plains then Off to the Joss Finale at the Turning Stone Casino, I'll be back one week from Tuesday. I would be happy to help.

I once had a thomas wayne New with the inlays lifting and jerry mcworter told me to send it to him and he would take care of it! there is alot of good people in this industry iam glad to know that you are one of that group! My hats off to you! also I bought a barry Szamboti off e-bay once and it ended up being stolen, and barry knew the owner personally > we worked it out thru Barry to get the rightfull owner his cue And barry stepped up to the plate(and didnt have to) and took care of me ! my hats off to Barry ,A gem of a guy!!so when you get disgusted watching all the idiots in this industry "rember in all the coal there is a bunch of scattered diamonds!!!! :)

Late to the party as usual but Mike Webb gets my vote.
Honest and meticulous, what more is there to say :)

Duane,

That cue was here twice for repairs and took us about 6 months to collect the bill on. The first time on 12.30.03 for finish work and a joint change. The second time on 2.25.04 for a problem with the joint. In that time the cue was of course played with and also was damaged with some big dents on one of the shafts about 2 inches up from the collar, the type dents a hammer might make when missing a nail. We were not sure what made the damage, but it is what damaged the joint. When the cue was here the second time the current owner wanted the cheapest job to flip the cue. And that did not allow for the finish of the forearm ($40) thus creating a line at the joint. As you can see in the pictures when the cue left the first time it looked really nice. The cue never did see the gallery of cues on Proficient, because of how the owner wanted the work handled and the fact that things like this can be disscussed later. Since that time we pass on work here that is designed to cut corners. Sorry about your cue, it is not the way we normally conduct business here.

Hey Scott, that is the cue but it was never mine. I did know the owner at the time who sent the cue to you for repair. He showed me the joint after it came back from you the first time in person and I was shocked. Maybe something did happen in between your repair and my viewing. The second time it went you to for repairs it was sold (maybe in transit) to another person who did not have a credit card so I had to step in and pay the shipping to get the cue back for him. I did see the cue again on return and was not impressed. I was unaware the prior owner (at that point) was asking you to take shortcuts. I'm glad to hear you won't take shortcuts anymore.

Always two sides to every story so it was nice to hear yours. I've only heard good things about your work otherwise.

Duane

I don't know how to determine who is the best, but I'll stack Mike Webb's work up against anybody whose work I've seen. Mike is very competent and dedicated to doing work he can be proud of.
