who does the best finish/repair

Hey Scott, that is the cue but it was never mine. I did know the owner at the time who sent the cue to you for repair. He showed me the joint after it came back from you the first time in person and I was shocked. Maybe something did happen in between your repair and my viewing. The second time it went you to for repairs it was sold (maybe in transit) to another person who did not have a credit card so I had to step in and pay the shipping to get the cue back for him. I did see the cue again on return and was not impressed. I was unaware the prior owner (at that point) was asking you to take shortcuts. I'm glad to hear you won't take shortcuts anymore.

Always two sides to every story so it was nice to hear yours. I've only heard good things about your work otherwise.

Duane

Thanks Duane... again I do apologize for the less than standard work and the fact that you were involved in this. No matter who you are if you do a lot of work there will always be something that will need additional attention and if that would have been the case here I would have immediately fixed it no charge. This whole thread spawned from a previous thread called nice http://www.azbilliards.com/vbulletin/upload/showthread.php?t=16536 I am not quite sure why, but do appreciate the fact that pictures were posted and kind words were said. I always like to lurk, but usually don't post.

Best Regards...

Ned is here in California and makes a beautiful cue and his repair work is second to none. My friend just had an Ed Young cue refinished and it came back perfect. His prices are reasonable as well-

as long as the maker is among the living i would send it him

I agree with that to a certain extent....

I wanted to have Schon refinish my 1986 R8 I currently have on E-bay, but it was going to take them upwards of 3 months to get it done.

I sent it to Jackson Custom Cues and they had it Refinshed with a new leather wrap refinished the shaft and put a new tip on and had it back to me in 1 week of them receiving it.

To some, timing is of the essence.

On a side note, if I EVER need a nother stick refinshed I will be more than happy to send it back to Jeckson. Their work is first class, they have great prices, are damned good people to deal with and have excellent prices....

:)

ned makes a nice cue

I'll second that. Ned's repair and refinsh work is top notch. He can do most anything. Leather wraps second to none. I've had nothing but good experiences with Ned. There are many other capable cue repair guys in the SoCal area. Ned, however, is the number one go-to guy in my book.

Duane,

That cue was here twice for repairs and took us about 6 months to collect the bill on. The first time on 12.30.03 for finish work and a joint change. The second time on 2.25.04 for a problem with the joint. In that time the cue was of course played with and also was damaged with some big dents on one of the shafts about 2 inches up from the collar, the type dents a hammer might make when missing a nail.

Scot,

The fact that you can come up with this information and the photographs from the thousands of cues you have worked on is a tribute to your organizational skills.

I honestly feel fortunate to have someone like you to count on. You and Matt are a pleasure to work with. I think it's smart to only take on work you can focus on. You turned me down for a few jobs, and I certainly respected you for it.

One time I was visiting a cue maker's shop. A customer called looking for his cue. It had been dropped off 4 years ago for a refinish. The cue maker couldn't find it and had to give the guy another cue. True story.

Another vote for the man, Mike Webb of course ...... His work is fantastic and when he gives you a timeframe he delivers .... Thanks Mike keep up the great work................................ :)

I have had many cues refinished by several different people. My vote goes to Scott Sherbine at Proficient Billiards. He is affordable, does very good work in a very timely fashion.

If you live in the south east, the best is Steve Lomax, best leather wrap of all.

I don't know how to determine who is the best, but I'll stack Mike Webb's work up against anybody whose work I've seen. Mike is very competent and dedicated to doing work he can be proud of.

You are right, Mike is a meticulous craftsman in all respects of cuemaking, I have seen many many examples of refinish work done by Mike, joints, buttcaps, matching rings, new shafts (on cues not his own--not sure if he is still doing this anymore), leather wraps (phenomenal)...anyway he is a wonderful guy to talk to, to boot.
And Mike that cue you made for Rocky hits really sweet.

MIKE WEBB is our pick
Im not talking about a refinish but i recently got a Steve Kornele cue,i cant say i have seen a better finish on any cue so i assume if he does refinishes they would be top notch.

I have used Scot for about 20 cues....

I use Scott and Matt from Proficient for basic repairs and refinishing. They are super honest, careful, and their finish work is among the best available. I have never been dispappointed by them and they've done a lot of cues for me. Scott made a couple of replacement windows for me that were identical to the originals.

I forgot to mention, Scott does excellent leather wraps too. What I really like is how reliable they are. 10 working day turn around is the norm.

Chris

Scot gets my vote. While I havent had bad experiences with the others, I have nothing but positive ones with Scot. I have sent my other friends to him on my recommendation as well.

Never an issue, so why look for someone else?

Ken

Scot/Proficient gets my vote for price and timeliness. I have another buddy who will send his cues only to Scot, and he is not a low end cue guy. He had one problem with the finish on a cue he sent to Scot, and Scot had him send the cue back, refinished it, and paid shipping both ways.

If people trust Scot with Balabushka, Paradise, Szambotis and the like, I think he should be good to refinish a Meucci, Schon, or whatever you throw at him.

Paul Fanelli or Skip Weston. Both have done repairs on cues for me at a reasonable price and a fast turnaround time.

Bcm Cues

If you would like to see Bryan's work first hand cornerstone, you can catch me at Davey K's weekly during the day. Bryan made my wife's cue and mine and is in the process of making one for one of our friends. The work is just awesome!! Jeff was just in last week it was great to talk to him.
