Who else carries a set of balls w/them for playing with?

I have not yet stopped laughing, though I can say that I brought my balls to the pool hall last Saturday. They have crappy and dirty balls,:D

to each his own but i think you should learn the ability to adjust to any equipment you play on... everywhere you go the conditions are going to be different and the player who can cope with these conditions better has an edge over someone who in most cases complains or makes excuses pertaining to the table or other equipment as to why they aren't playing well... the better player is going to suck it up and adjust his game accordingly. players like keith mcready can run racks and racks on 3 legged bar tables with house cues and push on tips. trying to improve your playing conditions is a great thing but if you feel the need to bring your own balls with you everywhere i think you are kind of handicapping yourself in the longrun. being able to adjust to different cueballs and such is something you need in your arsenal... ;)

I take mine to my home room every time I go to play. The house balls there are horrible cheapies.

I actually bought a set of Aramith Premiers/premiums not sure which ones they are lol, since they look the same. Because the pool hall I goto would go weeks without cleaning the balls.

And the tables played so crappy too, atleast half of the rails on every table were dead.

The new owner after about a week, re-did every 7ft table in the house, new rails, new cloth. And after he came back from Valley Forge, he had new Red Circle balls for all the Centennials.

when he asked me about them, I wanted to be like, well thats nice, but the sets havent been cleaned since before you left lol.

Now the other pool hall in town finally after two years ponied up and bought a Diamond ball cleaner to go with thier 17 Diamond tables! So its nice going there cuz you ALWAYS get a clean set, cuz the front door guy is always cleaning them.

Oh the other thing I thought was funny, the pool hall i frequent now, the old owner she usta let me clean the sets a couple times a week.

And some of the regular bangers, would be like I hate it when you clean the sets, the balls ROLL TOO FAR and GO TOO FAST!!!! I mean WHO the FUK says this shyt! lol.

I just wanted to be, um thats how they are suppose to play DORK!

And when I wasnt allowed anymore to clean the sets, thats when I bought my own, and would bring them in, I cleaned them by hand after I would be done playing for the nite, but atleast I had a clean set to use lol.

The other thing I would kinda mention, after a weekend tournament, I'd be like yea i went here or there, and this pool hall was sweet!, They would clean the tables rails/felt everytime after someone was done using the table, plus they would clean the sets after every couple of matches, and you always were given a clean set.

I loved travelling to tournaments cuz I felt like i was being pamper'd lol

Yeah, I have often taken my own balls into pool halls when practising.

I even used to take a set of digital scales to tournaments to check the ball weights. Some places would use very cheap CBs that could weigh about 4% lighter. That can make a big difference with positional play if you aren't prepared for it.

Two players I knew of always carried their own set of balls. Mosconi and Ronnie Allen.

I use to carry a set of balls. If you play 14-1 or o/p it is a real good idea. I don't care so much about table contitions but how balls react. Worn out/ dirty balls changes the game big time.

my bro has a nice cue ball which has the dots on it to see our english, and he just keeps it in his case and uses that when he plays.

I'll say this, since the places I frequent, have 1- gotten a Diamond ball cleaner, and the other place has a new owner. I havent had the need to bring my set to the pool halls.

Now depending on my mood, I sometimes bring my Measles CB to practice with.

I like the idea of getting a decent case to carry my set of Aramith's around with me in. I think I'll buy an extra set and a case just to keep in my vehicle that way I can easily go get them if I decide I want to. ;)

It's nice to see I'm not the only guy who knows that a good set of balls makes a big difference in the way a table plays.

I don't feel I should have to "adjust" my game to a crappy set of balls, I've worked too hard on getting to really know the how and why balls react the way they should. As to the poster who suggested a "better" player should be able to adjust to all conditions, I say "HOGWASH!" :p I've decided to stay away from those places that can't keep their tables/balls in at the very least acceptable condition, I'll spend my hard earned money somewhere that has earned my business. :D

Just my $.02........keep the change. :)

I carry my set with me everywhere I go. I feel rather attached to them. And I play with them all the time!!!!!!!

As for pool balls, never.

I carry a perfect set of Brunswick Centennials in a O'neill Ball Case when I practice at the local Pool Hall ... Since I never have to break hard (for 1- Pocket and Str8Pool), the balls remain perfectly round and true ... Of course, in Tournaments you play with whatever is on the table ...

OK, ok, now that you're done laughing at the title of this post, in all seriousness, who else takes your own set of balls to the bar/pool hall to play with?

I've become so sick of the poor quality of balls (cue balls especially) at the local bars/pool halls that I'm starting to take my own set of Aramith balls with me to play with, especially for league.

(I'm not even going to get into the condition of some of the tables I've come across.)

I recently came across a cue ball at a local Pool Hall that was so unbalanced if you slow rolled it when the cue ball was in just the right position, the cue ball would literally make a big sweeping curve one way or the other. I've also seen the playing balls so old/hazy/chipped or whatever that I was utterly disgusted. :( I've had shots go off-line due to a chip in a playing ball, it's only happened a couple times, but you never forget those shots.

Is this a problem everywhere or are we just unlucky enough in my area to have some bar owners that obviously don't care what kind of equipment they present to the public?

Anyway........I don't mean to disrespect all bar owners because I know of some that really take care of their equipment and I realize a lot of these places don't actually own their tables, some amusement company does, but back to the question at hand........who else takes their own balls to play with?

I have a couple of sets, bought when I use to play at one particular room. The tables had funky rails, goofy pockets, it killed them to replace the cloth and would only spring for Simonis on two tables. And the balls (and floor for that matter) were always filthy. The only reason I played there was because of a sense of loyalty to the owner, who was a great guy and very good to me when I first started out playing in St. Louis. (Unfortunately, he passed a few years back, the family took it over and are slowly driving it into the ground.) Anywhos, I bought a set of Centennials and still carry them around in the trunk of my car. There is one room out in the boonies that I occasionally travel to that has pygmy balls, but the tables are kept in excellent condition, so I pull them out there.

Having nice clean balls and a decent cue ball changes everything and is well worth the investment and trouble of carrying them around.
